Anyone else keep pressing the RIF app out of habit?
...but I don't want to get rid of it! Been using RIF since 2011 and it'd feel so weird to take it off my home screen. I tried the Reddit app but it pollutes the front page with so much unnecessary shit that it becomes a chore to browse. Liking the look of Lemmy so far though.
Connect for Lemmy, turn on List View and the AMOLED theme and it gets pretty close to the RiF experience. Not 1 for 1, but close enough for what I'm doing. I also put it in the spot RiF has been for 10 years 😞.
I've been using Jerboa and it's working out well. I've tried the connect for Lemmy app, but once I tried making a long comment and the text went behind my keypad and I couldn't scroll, so I couldn't see what I was typing. I'm always on the lookout for more apps and trying them out until I find one I really like. I'm looking forward to seeing Sync for Lemmy up in action.
I've been using Liftoff as it's the closest to how RIF felt to me. I was able to go in the settings and switch the posts to compact and have the font sizes smaller to get it as close to RIF as possible.
It's definitely heavily geared towards iOS design principles, but if you can get past that wefwef.app has been the most stable and smooth experience I've found, despite being a PWA and not a native app.
I don't really like the apps, but if you want an app, you can add your main instance to homescreen and its essentially an app, just save your lemmy password in your browser and its no different from an app.
I deleted RIF today, and downloaded Liftoff. It's not perfect but maybe it will get better. If people wanted to shut off public discourse on social media like Farcebook/Reddit/Twit, then they succeeded.
Yes, but surprisingly my rig still works to see the homepage and saved my fav subs, just can't logon to post or vote. So it's still not the same.
I did see some posts about some how patching rif to a "vanced" version I wanna check out so I can keep tabs on other communities that are migrating while I continue transitioning over to lemmy
Stealth (com.cosmos.unreddit) has a switch for web scraping mode, however reddit being left as only a really badly ran potemkin village gives the site an uneasy feeling
I decided to test the ReVanced patch for using your own API key out of curiosity and it worked great so I've kinda just kept it. Still using it to check into a couple of small communities but otherwise coming here for my scrolling and headlines
I un-installed it when the blackout started but I understand the feeling. I definitely use my phone less, probably am disconnected from some current events, but I'm trying to participate more here and in the fediverse in general.
Honestly, not as much anymore. Transitioning to Lenny was quite smooth with Connect and it made me aware of the Fediverse, which is such a fascinating concept.
RIF will always have a place in me, and I have not, and will probably not delete it anytime soon. I don't see it from the Playstore anymore, so all the more reason not to. Instead, like what I read somewhere here, I created an "Apps Graveyard" folder and placed it there, keeping me far from unconsciously tapping on RIF for updates.
It still works - sort of. I can browse reddit without signing in. So I haven't yet deleted it yet. I'm planning to install a vanced version over the coming weekend. Hopefully that will work, I've never done anything like it before.
I replaced it in my quick access tray (okay, sync, not rif, still) with my lemmy app of choice. I kept launching it anyway and figured this was the easiest way to get over reddit lol
No, I think a clean separation works best. Over the last month, I've cut my Reddit use down from probably a few hours a day to maybe 2-3 minutes a day just to read up on sports news, and I only do that via old.reddit with RES. The time I used to spend looking at RIF has now been reallocated to reading e-books and getting out of bed in a timely manner.
However, on my phone I have left the space empty where the RIF icon used to be. o7.
The app still works for me but maybe that's because I'm not using any user login and am just using it to read a couple of subs that haven't migrated yet.
I did until yesterday. I've enjoyed my experience here and am looking forward to seeing it grow more. As much as the whole situation has pissed me off, it's exciting to be a part of a new community. Thanks for the 10 great years rif.
I've found that the "Chrome app" version of kbin is actually pretty decent. I don't know what the term is, visit kbin.social using Chrome on your phone and it will offer to "install" a shortcut that you can use as an app while waiting for Artemis. At least, that worked for me on Android.
No, I hid mine before the protest began. I'd move my lemmy app to the place RIF was in, but I haven't found one that actually works on both my (old) phone and my instance.
I haven't had that problem. I uninstalled RIF when they announced the changes. I realized I didn't have the premium of RIF, so I bought that while I was at it. I have ended up on Reddit at times just checking in on the API ruckus specifically.
However, Reddit as a corporation seems to have a proclivity for beef and thus has continued to convey the ruckus.
Revanced manager can make it work again with a little effort on your part. I did it with Sync for reddit, but I still don't use reddit as much as before. It just doesn't very feel good anymore, so I just occasionally browse reddit through Sync now. Looking forward to Sync for Lemmy!
