Cyrillic isn't just scrambled Latin script, the letters have different sounds.
Visual similarity can cause a lot of issues with learning the alphabet, because some are what they look like (т, о, е, м, б, к, [х, but pronounced weird]), but others aren't (с = s, р = R, я = ya, н = N, и = ee, з = z, г = g)...
you should translate the characters based on their sound, not visual similarity.
