On D day the USS Texas couldn't physically elevate the guns any higher in their mounts to lob the shells at German positions as they retreated further from the ocean. So they intentionally took on water on one side of the ship, elevating the other side, and enabling the guns to shoot further.

I mean, it was apparently completely credible.
I've always wandered if the Captain or other Senior Officer had that idea in their back pocket just waiting for an excuse to use it.

EDIT: Also, the livestream of when they towed her from San Jacinto to the drydock was absolutely the coolest livestream that Iโve ever watched. Checked all the boxes of, like, โthis is a historical event that Iโm watching; thereโs a real sense of occasion,โ plus โthis is like those slow-TV videos, where someone has a camera and walks through nature scenery.โ I had that shit on all day.
