Welcome! Put your feet up and relax!

Welcome to c/FinalFantasy!

As this is a new community, we have to start somewhere. So why not a better way than getting to know each other and starting some conversations. We could start with these questions…

  • What was the first Final Fantasy game that you played?
  • Which is your favourite in the fanchise?
  • Do you have a favourite piece of music?
  • What’s the most memorable moment for you?

  • Hello! I got my start as a young gamer when my mom got me FFIII (US) for the snes, and I got the launch edition of VII when it came bundled with a t-shirt. I’ve been slowly working my way through Square’s older FF titles and other franchises, like SaGa Frontier.

If I had to pick one franchise, I guess it would be VII, if only because of the radical storyline, and things like the Golden Saucer.

VII also has one of my favorite pieces of music, that being the main battle theme, followed by the opera music in III.

The moments that most immediately come to mind are probably casting Knights of the Round for the first time, and playing in an opera in III.

    Good times!

    • Hey @[email protected]! Sounds like your mom really started something when she got you FFIII. That’s awesome.

Some solid choices and favourites in there.

  • Kupo!

First ever FF was FF4 (or FF2) in SNES.

FF7 is my favorite ever. Will never forget how I felt as young kid playing it for the first time.

Hard to pick. But playing FF7R really got me several times. I was just in awe watching my childhood come to life.

    • I was just in awe watching my childhood come to life.

I know what you mean! Remake really helped bring some of great moments from VII to life much more than the OG did.

  • hello, glad to be part of a federated Final Fantasy community. in my thirties and have played them all, started with 8 or 7 early 2000s then went from there. my favorites are Final Fantasy 5, Tactics, 8, 10, and most of all Final Fantasy XI. i really prefer a job-based system in role-playing games, as it offers a higher level of gameplay customization than normal; i also enjoy all the soundtracks, particularly Nobuo Uematsu's work. recently i've been writing about everything i play on my site https://oncomputer.games/ along with my highschool friend, so check it out if you're interested.

What was the first Final Fantasy game that you played?

    • Final Fantasy 8

Which is your favourite in the fanchise?

    • Final Fantasy 11

Do you have a favorite piece of music?

    • Battle-Theme: Battle at the Big Bridge (FFV), Seymour Battle Theme (FFX)
    • Non Battle-Theme: You're Not Alone! (Ff9) or Fisherman's Horizon (ff8) or FFII Overworld Theme (PSP version), or Gustaberg (FFXI)

What’s the most memorable moment for you?

    • playing FFXI growing up, being part of the community
    • FFX Yunalesca boss battle, Auron's speech.
  • FFXIII was my first Final Fantasy game. I Adored Fang and Vanille. Played through it while it was bring trashed on by everyone I knew but I really enjoyed the story, I didn't care about how linear it was.

In fact my least favorite part of the game was where it was less linear.

First exposure to the franchise was the Spirits Within, then Advent Children. Watched and enjoyed Advent Children without any knowledge of FF7, looking forward to going back to watch it again after the last part of the remake trilogy.

Got really involved in FFXIV, to the point where I'm strongly considering getting a tattoo of the legacy symbol on my back.

I don't even know for favorite song, probably Answers.

  • My first was FF7 and it's also my favourite although I switch between 6, 7 and 10 depending on the day.

Favourite music would be Terras theme or To Zanarkand. Also really enjoying Find the Flame currently.

FF7R was pretty special for memorable moments. My most memorable moment was when I was at my friends and they were trying to get a gold chocobo in 7. When I called the next morning they had been up all night doing it and it made me want to play 7 for the first time!

  • As I asked the questions, I’ll answer first!

What was the first Final Fantasy game that you played?

FFVII was my first. It was freshly released, I was young and had no clue about the series at the time. I’d see a lot of hype in different PlayStation magazines about it and ended up buying it when it was released. I got hooked and have stuck with the series and more since then.

Which is your favourite in the franchise?

It’s a difficult question as there’s so many to love and enjoy, so I have a few. So, controversial one first. FFVIII. While VII was what got me hooked, VIII is the game that solidified it for me. There was and still is just something about it.

The other is XII. The story and characters around this entire game is incredible to me.

Lastly, XIV. It’s a stunning game that offers so much.

Do you have a favourite piece of music?

I love FF music, so this is incredibly difficult to answer. I know I asked the question but I need to have a serious think about this one.

What’s the most memorable moment for you?

It almost seems cliche, but Yuna performing the Sending in FFX is probably this. It was such a beautiful and almost haunting moment as performed to free the souls and send them on their way to the Farplane. A scene so impactful it became the game logo.

    • FFVII was my first title too. I was still in elementary school back then, but I had a blast playing it together with my friends after school. Obviously, I replayed it when I was older and understood the systems better. It wasn't until FFX that I played another FF game. While it was fun, it's not my favourite.

I played FFXIII this year for the first time on my PS5, and I have to say it's a real contender for my favourite FF game. The characters are well-developed, the storyline is great, and I've spent more time on Triple Triad than I want to admit.

      • I’m assuming you mean VIII on your PS5?

I love Triple Triad too. If you’re interested in MMOs, XIV has a fantastic version of TT (among many other great things).

VIII is such a wonder game, glad to see there’s others that enjoy it as much as I do.

  • My first was FFI via NESticle on DOS, but FFIV on the SNES was the first one I put real time in to.

My favorite is FFVI. I replay once a year or so.

I guess Battle With the Four Friends is my favorite piece of music. Fuck that's a hard pick though. I jam out to all the battle themes as well.

Most memorable moment is the opera scene in FFVI. It blew me away the first time and I still look forward to it on every replay almost 30 years later.
