New whole home solar system installed, and working…
The install just completed today, and we’re waiting for our final county inspection. We went for a whole home backup solution, as the tax incentives are currently good for both panels and batteries.
Feels good to be grid-independent (still grid-connected though), and no longer have to worry about those annoying PSPS (public safety power shutoff) events here in California. Since we are on a private well, when grid power goes out, our water goes, so we can’t flush toilets or shower. That alone is worth it! :)
I talked with several solar installers, but many (most) were from out of state, or my county, and clearly didn’t operate anything locally. I ended up using a local installer, who worked to build the system I wanted, source the system components, and worked with our utility (Southern California Edison) to get the project application approved quickly. It was all pretty straightforward, really.
