Ontario is planning to make it mandatory for salary ranges to be disclosed on job postings.
“At a time when many companies are posting record profits, it is only fair they communicate transparently about how they pay workers,” Labour Minister David Piccini said in a statement.
Just as important as disclosing a wage is disclosing the amount of hours expected. A friend recently applied to nearly 800 jobs and noticed the descriptor 'part time' meaning anything from 10 - 35 hours a week. A couple they got response from was less than ten hours.
Job descriptions should be required to have accurate information - if for nothing else than to save both sides engaging in a fruitless correspondence or meeting.
As long as they do it right. Here in California the wage ranges end up being a factor of 2 between the min and max for many jobs and are totally useless.
