Hexbear's almost back to the rest of lemmy y'all!!!

https://www.hexbear.net/post/270650

I really hope beehaw is slow to block them, those shitposters are feral

edit: bad news, they say they're not even going to be federating at first and when they do it will probably just be with us :( I wanted to see the confusion from libs interacting with maniacs on that instance

  • Why will they not federate with others, I need to see them all charge into Beehaw and Midwest Social, even if its only a day before they are taken off,

And with my dislike of those instances aside, I feel just federating with us would be a less advantages position in general, by opeining up here, yes we both get user exchange but thats it, Hexbearians? Hexbearians cannot go to the wider lemmy world, and educate others, and if they only federate with us we will only nitpick each other, instead of going out to the wider instances and mabey changing a mind or 2

    • Why will they not federate with others, I need to see them all charge into Beehaw and Midwest Social, even if its only a day before they are taken off,

The short answer to this question is that it will require some robust discussion before a decision is made. At this point, no decision has been made one way or another.

    • I just think they don't want to deal with the complete brainrot, their admins constantly have to deal with wreckers

  • very cool, good timing with the R*ddit API shenanigans

  • On the bright side, they can make sure their federation works and that their damn site works before opening up to the other Lemmy instances. Their stats are a bit wonky (and probably inflated by ban evasions as mentioned already) but they appear to be HUGE, even compared to the recent influx here and on beehaw.

No you do not. I am pretty sure you can get banned from Hexbear for saying nincompoop, but it will happen like 2 days later. They'll probably just focus on nitpicking us. Thing is you guys read books, you didn't just watch Zizek videos and giggle until he penned the Compact mag article.

That being said, I'm quite optimistic. I don't like the UI on the site but SeventyTwoTrillion basically produces their own version of the NakedCapitalism news digest every day, I look forward to federating.

  • I keep considering if i should get a hexbear, can anyone give me context in how they interprit left unity?

    • I think they frown upon calling each other liberals outright, I’m not really sure I just shitpost on there

    • Anti-sectarianism is the general rule. The community is predominantly Marxist, but has its share of Anarchists. There is no official list of points of unity, but anti-imperialism, anti-capitalism, anti-racism, anti-gender/sexuality discrimination are basically non-negotiable.

I can only speak for myself, but my sentiment is that the left in the imperial core is so disorganized that the majority of sectarian disagreements are purely hypothetical and stupid to get worked up over. We can have discussions about theory and tactics, but there is no reason to assemble the perfect party platform and get into bitter fights about its nuances when there is no party to speak of. You can't build the mass line without the mass.

Of course, this doesn't apply to the type of historically illiterate, American-exceptionalist Reddit "Anarchists," or any of that PatSoc MAGA Communism bullshit. People stanning the Shining Path will probably get a lot of weird looks. We give the handful of Trots their fair share of noogies, but we don't exclude them.

It is a relatively small community. If you are comment in good faith and demonstrate you aren't full of imperialist brainworms you will probably be fine. If you pick out individual people with the dumbest takes and graft that onto broad movements, putting words in peoples' mouths, you might run into trouble. We love dunking on people with bad takes, but if you take a particular Bellingcat dropout's cringepost and act like they are the designated spokesperson of Anarchism, that's the kind of thing that doesn't fly. Basically, don't be disingenuous.

We're not the type of community that will ban somebody for mentioning in passing that they participate in mutual aid on the basis that mutual aid is charity and therefor not praxis. That kind of hair-splitting dogmatism can stay on Reddit as far as we're concerned.

  • Just a reminder some of the "Marxists" there are of the CIA-compatible variety. Vulgar views, abuse of standard Marxist/AES positions (especially around sex work, they call those who uphold the Marxist position SWERFs).

Not awful but not free from problems either. Can mostly be ignored but I foresee struggle sessions in our future on certain issues. Certainly rather federate with them over any of the other instances but I hope our mods have their banhammers ready and we have our downvotes handy because they have some BAD takes.

    • I haven't really seen any of that but then again I've only been on that site for a few weeks, they do seem significantly meaner than here

    • Stuff like their intense struggle sessions are what drove me away. Idk if they have changed it now but when I was over there a lot they had no vetting and no way to IP ban so any trolls could just spam accounts. There's a lot of users that come off as so over the top that I can only assume they are trying to make certain communities look bad. You have to be wary of any community that's and easy target for controversy. And if you go in and try to have a reasonable argument or criticism of any kind you get immediately attacked. I still go there. They have a great news source and good info, but there are definitely bad faith actors.

      • "Intense struggle sessions" such as policing people for not upvoting their posts enough, importing /r/vegancirclejerk moderators, I'd prefer a cultural revolution style struggle if I had to pick! Not to mention that they have a problem with people using sockpuppets & trolling, which really makes it no better than reddit. I heard the whole vegan debacle pissed off their webcoders but it's not like making a lemmy is hard

Honestly, I'm understating and omitting quite a bit.

    • Yeah I've seen what you've mentioned myself. I hope Lemmygrad can sustain the influx of posts and not degrade in quality.

    • I foresee struggle sessions in our future.

Those will be a thing to watch. Hexbear is notorious for their struggle sessions.
