Can't change email from email that's deleted

I'm trying to change my email from an email that's been gone for a few months by now, but customer support states they "can't deliver messages to the email address" of the old email I entered.

It's very backward from other game platforms' customer support, which let you change your email instantly and lets you cancel it from the old email. Why is EG's customer support like this?
