Bookshop.org launches Kindle alternative, sends e-book sales to local bookstores
Bookshop.org launched a new platform that allows independent bookstores to sell e-books to readers. Here's a look inside.

It's only an alternative if you can read said e-book on an actual e-reader with e-ink. A smartphone is not an e-reader.

I have mix feelings about this, as while there are some DRM-free books, most are locked to the application.
Meaning: you can't give your book to someone after you're done and if the app stops working in the future, your book won't be available.
I'll rather have them call it renting than buying.
