I think that this fight happens inside the veil which separates the Shadow Lands from the Lands Between. There are a bunch of reasons for this:
We know that Omen blood is needed to cross into the Shadow Lands, as Miquella uses Mogh's accursed blood to allow himself and his followers to cross the boundary
There are very few examples of similar visual effects - I can only really think of the fight against Rennala (the transition to the second phase), and the fight against the Elden Beast (also transition to second phase). Nowhere else do we see shadows appearing like this, and both these cases can be linked to Marika (through Ranni and Radagon respectively)
The Omen don't have the kind of magic you'd need to do something like this. They have some magical properties, but those are mostly out of their control. Maybe they aren't even doing this on purpose - the Fell Twins could simply be stuck inside the veil, unable to progress further
When overlaying the DLC and basegame maps, we can be sure the Divine Towers would be close to the borders. Even though the maps don't fit when looking at all details, we can be certain the veil must run somewhere along the area of the divine bridges
The fight ends once we kill both Omen. It's reasonable to assume that the hand which transports us to the Shadow Lands also would cease working if all the Omen blood were removed
All of this leads me to believe that this fight happens inside the veil! What do you think?
Interesting. So you think the veil is a space? Like a poker dimension?
It could be like the fog between the world and boletaria/lordran/the lands between.
isn't the omenblood used as a portal? Like water in bloodborne for example?
looking for the shadoeeffect is a good idea. Maybe a spell has the same effect and the lore of the spell could give more hints to the nature of the shadow. Also looking at everything with a veil in it.
Looks a bit like the veil that conceals the lands of shadow.
And if that is a connection we also have concealing veil -> black knife assassins -> Marika.
i think it is interesting that those are the fell twins and not mogh and morgott. Don't know about you but thats a bit odd to me.
Also the way they spawn. There is a single soldier patrolling, the it gets dark and then the soldier is gone but a corpse and two standard omen are in its place.
It feels so deliberate but I don't get it.
yes, as I see it the shadow lands are in the are in the middle of the map where the water is. But mirrored in the water surface like in the dark souls 2 trailer.
I would be interesting to know if the veil has as many... Flaps? Don't know how to call them. The things that go outwards from the center. If it has as many of them as there are towers.
Also isn't there a veil in Marika's bedchamber? Maybe there is a clue.
could be.
All in all I would say we need to find out more about the nature of the veil. Is it just magik barrier, a material, a space? Are there hints to how the veil was made?
Was ist woven from the stuff we the in the dlc trailer?
I think a good starting point to look would be the black knife assassins connection.

Good question, I'm not sure! But it would make a lot of sense if TSL haven't been moved, but merely hidden by being separated through an extra dimension. Probably way easier to create a thin dimension than moving so much physical mass into a new dimension.

Kind of, we see Mohg come out of a pool of blood in his boss cutscene. But we can't be sure if he "dissolved" into it, or if it's a separate dimension or whatever else.

Great point. It feels like the world is trying to force the current cycle to end by repeating elements of the last cycle, but Marikas schemes stop everything in its tracks.
Also the way they spawn. There is a single soldier patrolling, the it gets dark and then the soldier is gone but a corpse and two standard omen are in its place.
Especially this bit, I didn't even think about it! The soldier is half-dead, just like Miquellas corpse!

I'm pretty sure the veil has far more flaps than there are towers, but that could be artistic choice :)

100%!

Yeah, I think it holds a lot of answers. I really hope wee learn something about this in Nightreign, but I think there's a good chance for that, since we see those shadow titans walking across the map. They seem to have been hidden using a similar mechanism as Enir Ilim, and I'm reasonably sure that mechanism is linked tightly with whatever is going on on the bridge.
yeah its all pretty weird. I will start a document soon. Because that stuff is all way to complex and its hard to structure my thoughts as everything is so intervowen.
Always thought a graph with items, characters, locations and their connections would be really helpful.
I pumped for nightreign too. Don't know if its canon but if it is it would validate the Theorie that all the fromsoft souls games are in the same universe.
