My trick is to tell myself there is no commitment, that I could read/listen for just 5-10mins and say it’s enough and get back to other stimulating routine. It works cause:
It does make it easier to start next time.
You don’t have that guilty procrastination feeling about it.
Half the time, it gets interesting, so you end up reading/listening for or much longer.
I'm using a third party reader, but Kobo has the option to export the bought books into DRM free formats, so I've also been buying ebooks there. And some authors (like Brandon Sanderson) explicitly distribute their books without DRM!
Why? Do what you enjoy and what stimulates you. If playing video games is what does that then and it's what you're doing, then that's all you should be doing
It’s a particular thing for me, because I’m writing a story, but explaining its appeal to agents without having enough understanding of the current novel space is a tall task…
The current novel space can go suck an egg, all of my favorite books I've ever read were all "I had this story burning to get out of me and I had to go through 30 publishers to find one that would take it"
