Yes, it's a team chat and much better than Microsoft teams in my opinion.
But the reason might be that it is just slowly copying slack. The use case I encounter a lot with small companies is that they use the Google workspace Suite, even call via Google meet, but chat with slack for some reason. Google chat is now very similar and completely integrated into the rest of Google workspace. So it seems to be the much better choice to me?
