Fragrance: Elysian Soap Shop - Olympus - Eau de Parfum
2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
Very nice shave today. I used another Elysian soap. Olympus is more high key and subtle than El Dorado, but very enjoyable. The soap base is harder than your typical artisan soap, and it starts a little sudsier, but it becomes thick and dense with a little work.
Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - Aftershave
Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm
Fragrance: Maher Olfactive - Madame Chouteau
Inspired by some talk on Discord about Hipster, and then seeing @[email protected] use a soap called "Hipster", I decided to use Hipster. It's a really nice scent that I never got more than a sample of, and now it's discontinued.
I decided to use more of my Madame Chouteau sample, and despite remembering how strong and stanky it is, I did two sprays (sample sprays, mind you). Woof, this stuff is strong. Smoky and deep, it's not for everyone. I like to describe it as being in a basement bar in Europe during WWII (like the scene in Inglourious Basterds).
I have to figure out if this razor is milder than my MMOC or if they're the same. I can't remember if I've ever done a side-by-side shave with them... surely I have?! I used to think they're the same, but today it felt like maybe it's milder? Either way, it was a good shave. Looking forward to my favorite GEM tomorrow -- Bullet Tip/Flying Wing.
Brush: Semogue Owner's Club (cherry wood and boar) (58)
Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 17 (NOS, 7/8", hollow ground, stainless steel)
Lather: Smitten Soapery – Hipster
Post Shave: Chatillon Lux – Pure Lavender
Fragrance: Chatillon Lux – Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli
I woke up to over 30 Moarteen signups already and I'm elated. Leaning into lavender and patchouli (and citrus) with this happy early weekend morning shave.
The Frio edge lost it's magic smoothness around use 24, but it's still solidly comfortable at 28 uses. Really great steel, this.
Very nice photo! Honestly, the second or third use is just magic on a fresh Frio edge that has been really pushed for sharpness. The first shave or two helps it to settle in a little.
