I know it's a long shot, but are there any controllers that people could recommend? Both of my controllers went. One has a severe drift and the other one has unresponsive buttons (and I had gotten that one to deal with the drift of the first).
I was wondering if anyone knew of any sturdier brands?
If you or someone you know is handy with a soldering iron, there are replacement hall-effect sensor sticks available now. I am planning on swapping mine out with Gulikit ones because I am very stubborn about giving in to planned obsolescence (I 100% believe this is deliberate on Sony's part).
It’s expensive but I recently bought a flydigi apex 4 controller and I absolutely love it. Seems to work with everything, is solidly built, and has precise controls.
I’m sure there are other options too, but this is one of the good ones!
Edit: apparently it does not work natively on PS5. My apologies - I thought it did, but was mistaken. I believe it can be done with special cables/adapters but that’s more hassle than it’s worth imo. For a PC controller though (how I use mine) - it’s absolutely my most favorite controller of all time (and I’ve been gaming since the Atari 2600). ;)
I have successfully sent back a PS5 controller (the original from the box) within the 1-yr warranty; they sent me a brand new controller. You comment "every quarter", those controllers should be under warranty. Here is the US based link to get started: https://repairs.playstation.com/s/request-repair?id=2&locale=en-us&language=en_US
My current favourite controllers for the price is the 8bitdo Ultimate C2. They come with hall effect joysticks so no drift, theyre light and responsive, and they're compatible with all consoles and operating systems that I am aware of. The 8bitdo ultimate is xbox-style joystick configuration, but the Pro2 by them is playstation style and to my understanding is of similar quality. Just make sure you get the hall effect variant to avoid potential future stick drift
