Hey, I'm having an issue with usernames on Kbin through my Wordpress-connected ActivityPub website.

So I help with a #TransPride website and wanted to implement ActivityPub into it allowing the Team to be able to write stuff on part of the Official Team.

To do this I'm using the ActivityPub Plugin on WordPress but it seems like the username get's cut off, is this due to the long domain or something else. Please help.

The username i'm trying to go for is: [email protected] (If I can remove the www. that would be great) but on here it seems to have ended up being @ww[email protected] what doesn't make sense as I'm not using kbin for the backend.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

  • I see you as @[email protected] on kbin, lemmy, and firefish. Though maybe you're talking about another account. If you wanted [email protected] you'd need to set up some sort of fediverse instance of your own and set it up to use that domain. If you're trying to use it on kbin, I'd recommend kbin or lemmy, as I wasn't actually able to post this on firefish.

It honestly might still be worthwhile even with a federated wordpress if you're trying to use it for that purpose.

    • @Millie I'm talking about another account, as this is my personal for none professional things. I'm trying to set up a Wordpress-based one with the ActivityPub Protocol, from what I've seen it just looks like a Kbin issue due to Character limits and stuff. I'm slowly working it out, just broke the website as of the moment so hope I can fix it soon.

      • I'm sure you'll find a way if you're determined enough!

You may find, though, that interoperability between platforms isn't always quite extensive enough to do everything you want to without switching for certain features. Like, I can read top-level lemmy and kbin threads in firefish, and I can reply to lemmy threads, but I can't read comments on either and I can't reply to kbin threads.

What I've done instead, though, is set up a VIA macro to swap over to the next tab, cut the current url, head to lemm.ee, tab to the search, paste, search, and pick the top link. Between firefish and lemmy it covers most of the other instance types, though I haven't tried posting to a wordpress yet.

Happy to do some interoperability testing with firefish, though! I'm curious how I can interact with which platforms!
