This deleted scene does help explain why they didn't just hold poker night in the writers room or something in that episode. I always found it a bit odd that they were playing poker onstage, but apparently Jack just made that particular poker night special because he was going to be joining.
They had been playing in the writers room, but Jack wanted a big formal tournament to humiliate Kenneth.
