Everything I find says Karla is selling frozen yogurt in Rio de Janeiro, and Latifa died of dysentery shortly after filming. It all seems to be based on one article. Though I've read it and it seems to be a spoof article.

This is the only in depth article (from 7 years ago) I've seen and it mentioned that they did similar stuff afterwards.
