Hydrogen fuel-cell e-bikes can be "recharged" in seconds
While most ebikes on the road today will come with a battery pack, some are riding down the hydrogen fuel-cell cycle path. HydroRide not only has fuel-cell ebikes available, but also a compact refill station to top up H2 canisters.
All the power of an ebike with all the convenience of a kerosene powered motorcycle.
Recharged in seconds… presuming you happen to be in one of the few areas of the globe with hydrogen infrastructure, and that you live close to it, or are willing to be charged obscene rates to cart a couple of litres of hydrogen out to wherever you live, on the outside chance there's a local gas supplier that would even do that.
Thanks, I'll charge at home. Or at work. Or anyplace in between where I have access to mains power, which is pretty much EVERYWHERE.
Eh, we can do the exact same thing with swappable batteries, this isn't a unique selling point.
I know it'll never happen because no one wants to put the work into build the infrastructure, but the appeal of hydrogen to me is the larger energy density compared to batteries. That's ignoring all the other downsides of hydrogen of course, but imo a lot of those are due to lack of commercial interest, there's just not as much money in improving them compared to batteries.
Ideally we just end up with super amazing batteries and never have to worry about storing pressurised gas that loves to escape basically any container.
Hopefully one that doesn't explode.
