“Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and a stone will come back on him who starts it rolling.” I hate analysing dylan lyrics with drugs or religion reference but this has a good case.

  • Dylan’s line was reportedly inspired by the 1949 Hank Williams song “Lost Highway”:

    I’m a rolling stone, all alone and lost

    The 1950 Muddy Waters blues song “Rollin' Stone” was also a likely inspiration.
