Donald Trump and his aide Walt Nauta asked a federal court in Florida to postpone the criminal trial in the Mar-a-Lago documents case and drop the current date, a filing by the former U.S. president's lawyers showed on Monday.
The audacity of that guy. If he’s on trial for this kind of stuff he shouldn’t be able to run. Wth
ETA: because it seems some people can’t read in context, or understand who “that guy” means in a post about one guy, I mean the audacity of fucking trump is infuriating. Being on trail for fucking treason means he should NOT be able to run and using that as an excuse is the dumbest shit ever and infuriating to hear. Clear enough?????
That’s not what was implied. I don’t get to indefinitely postpone my trial because I’m applying for a new title at my job. Or launching a new product. Or playing in the superbowl. Or working on my next album. Or touring for book singing. Or sailing the Caribbean. It’s stupid to think running for office, or any other ambitious undertaking, allows you to just avoid your court for serious charges.
He’s in trial for espionage and hiding nuclear secrets. If he wants to run for president he can do it on his own time. Work-life balance. His presidential ambitions are a personal matter, and don’t come before justice or national security.
Nice straw man. You’re deliberately being disingenuous. And that’s simply typical coming from anyone who would defend this man.
It was to be expected because you see delays and postponing a lot in criminal trials.
That said, I don't know if he's gonna be able to delay it through the whole election cycle. Judges usually don't fuck around, and if Cannon does, she'll get slapped down hard later on. It will be and idea, because she already got hammered on appeal and she might be looking at some far worse consequences this time.
The first part unfortunately has a chance to work. But then what? Polls show trump is not nearly as praised as he was by a bunch of ppl back then. It isn't even clear that he will be the GOP candidate. So let's say they get it delayed until election results are public, chances are he loses, they wasted a bunch of time, trump and judge cannon can get hammered on appeal, and he is still stuck with solid time in prison.
I mean I get your point, and while I do think it's important to follow the law, it's also important that no one is above the law; not even a president. But in my mind chances are so slim for him to get out of this, I just can't see it.
