New player. just downloaded. what is necessary to play?

How do I get into x4? Do I just hop in? Is there some mandatory mods? Are the DLC necessary?

Hop in, hold on, and fail gloriously a few times before modding anything. It's a fantastic game, and worth every lesson that way, IMHO. 🤙🏼
