The Mac version is being discontinued as well, it’s just that Mac uses have the option of running the still supported iOS version on the desktop since that’s a thing you can do in general.
Are you on Linux? If so then Gnome Authenticator is a possible alternative, also allows importing & exporting your tokens in formats widely used by other apps
I use Linux, Windows, MacOS; I'm everywhere. I've had Aegis as a backup of my tokens in case bullshit like this happened, but it's still an amazingly stupid idea.
I started using 2 auth apps for replication once Authy stopped supporting the browser extension and set the precedent for this shite.
I mentioned in another comment but I've replicated many times over with different services and fallback devices. This is more of an ease-of-use concern.
It doesn’t look like the Mac version is fine. Apple Silicon is simply able to run iOS apps, so users can download the mobile app to replace the desktop.
No, it's just now that iOS devices and new Macs have the same processor architecture, you can download some iOS apps on macOS. You can do this with Authy.
Perhaps one reason is to ensure total lock in. Previously, the only way to export a TOTP seed was through a desktop app workaround. This way, they can make sure it’s impossible for you to leave (without a big hassle).
