Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said 'there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States,' on the same day U.S. president-elect Donald Trump declared that he's open to using 'economic force' to acquire Canada.
Trump calls the US-Canada border an "artificially drawn line", in what seems like one of the most dumbfounding statements the "build the wall" president could possibly utter.
God, just fucking leave him alone. Ignore the bluster, he's just trying to get a rise out of you. Listen, Canada, just like, be cool for four years. He's going to talk a lot of shit, and everybody knows he's full of shit. Yes, he's going to try something stupid, and when that happens, everybody knows he's going to get bitch-slapped. But right now, he's just seeking attention. He's not even sworn in. But every time you respond, it restarts the news cycle, and he knows he can keep it going with another stupid ass quote. Walk away, and let him fart into his own mouth for a while.
Look at what Greenland did. They didn't engage, and pretended Don Jr. was there for a holiday, and he just had to slink on home with nothing.
Ok, pop him in the mouth. Metaphorically, or actually. Please. I'd pay money to see it.
The problem is that he isn't the bully. He's the annoying kid who hangs around the bully acting tough and starting shit. He runs his mouth, gets attention, and when the fighting starts he hides behind a dumpster until it's over. There's no winning an argument with Trump, because he goal is to lure you into an argument.
Nothing would be more satisfying than to see him get his comeuppance, but I don't believe that's going to happen anymore. I had hopes, and we've had ample opportunities, but there are too many shitty Americans who are willing to let him get away with his bullshit.
This isn't the same though. Trump called Trudeau a Governor by accident and got a pretty big response out of that. All of a sudden these ideas of making Canada a state popped into his head and he keeps posting it because it gets attention. If we had've just ignored him he wouldn't get traction.
We pretty much need a law in Canada that says stop publishing Trump stories.
My concern would be that there are evidently so many gullible right-wing types around, I could see Trump winning over a good portion of them in both the USA and Canada, and Canada being undermined from within with the help of the usual propagandists (and perhaps Poilievre's Conservative government).
