For a non-US citizen the US court system is just weird in so many aspects... $148 million compensation that is given to two individual election workers?
I mean sure, they should be entitled to some compensation etc. but from my perspective the majority of the penalty should go to the state rather than the victims. And/or just put that guy in jail.
With numbers like this it's basically a jackpot to be the victim.
If a poor(er) person points a gun at my head threatening to kill me, I won't receive hundreds of millions of cash for compensation. But if a billionaire does it I do? Why is the height of the compensation depending on the criminal?
The penalty must be dependent on the offender, sure. Giuliani should pay a way higher fine than an average worker. Because a fine of $ 5,000 would mean nothing to him.
But for the victim it should be more important how big of a damage happened. A serious trauma is a serious trauma, no matter how rich the other side is.
If the penalty is higher than the compensation, the money should go to the state IMO.
