Listen, I hate Putin and Olympic cheaters as much as the next guy, but not every athlete should suffer because some people higher up are nut jobs. I wonder if these guys actually made their own decision or were pressured by the wrestling president this article mentions
Nah. Disagree. One of the very few things that could actually knock him and his ilk out of power is to make the average Russian Federation citizen’s life kinda suck. Internal revolt is a very real threat to them. There are a LOT of partisans in Russia, and they have a LOT of land to guard various important pieces of infrastructure against tampering and interference. The endgame isn’t “be a dick to Russians”. The endgame is “provide a negative incentive to Russians just sitting on their ass just acquiescing and not trying to wrest control of their government from the hands of their kleptocrats”.
To be clear: I’m not advocating for violence against Russian civilians at home or abroad. I AM advocating for refusing to trade ANYTHING with Russia. If they want to be a global pariah so bad, they need to get the full experience.
We have to hold people accountable for their governments in spite of the empathy we feel about their struggle.
