Bud Light says it will avoid more boycotts by never standing for anything
  • It depends on how you look at it. Most business thinking nowadays, at least at the scholarly level, involves some extent of stakeholder theory. Part of that means acknowledging the community’s wellbeing. Similarly, you can look at the rise of Enterprise Risk Management, which forces businesses to think about risks like climate change or en the risk of ignoring vs embracing the LGBTQ+ community

  • Time is up for neoliberals | Democracy requires a new, progressive capitalism.
  • We’ve now had four decades of the neoliberal “experiment,” beginning with Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. The results are clear. Neoliberalism expanded the freedom of corporations and billionaires to do as they will and amass huge fortunes, but it also exacted a steep price: the well-being and freedom of the rest of society.

Friedman and his acolytes failed to understand an essential feature of freedom: that there are two kinds, positive and negative; freedom to do and freedom from harm. “Free markets” alone fail to provide economic stability or security against the economic vagaries they create, let alone allow large fractions of the population to live up to their potential.

The road to authoritarianism is not paved by government doing too much but too little.

We care about freedom from hunger, unemployment and poverty — and, as FDR emphasized, freedom from fear. People with just enough to get by don’t have freedom

A lot of good criticisms in here but not a lot in terms of proposals. The proposals are a little vague.

  • Trump Leads in 5 Key States, as Young and Nonwhite Voters Express Discontent With Biden
  • All it takes is one Supreme Court nomination during Trump’s term and we’re fucked for that much longer. There’s a good chance Thomas dies in the next 4 years, do we really want 40 more years of some young right wing radical in that seat?

I think that’s what young people really don’t get. It’s not just 4 bad years (although even that argument is a pretty privileged thing to say).

  • Sen. Lindsey Graham Suggests Nuking Gaza, Calls Hiroshima ‘the Right Decision’

I didn’t get a bar mitzvah, personally, so I’m a shitty Jew who doesn’t have those powers.

  • Bud Light says it will avoid more boycotts by never standing for anything
  • Just to take that logic a little farther… should they take a stance on climate change? Like, should they bother to aim for net zero emissions or is that too political?

How about civil rights? If a city bans trans people from using a bathroom that matches their gender identity, is the business obligated to enforce that law? Or any other morally reprehensible law?

I’m just not sure where the line is

Google blasted for AI that refuses to say how many Jews were killed by the Nazis
  • Google, and its parent company Alphabet, have long come in criticism for developing products pushing social justice absolutism. In February, their AI platform Gemini was mocked for generating comically woke creations including a woman as pope, black Vikings, female NHL players and “diverse” versions of America’s Founding Fathers — not to mention black and Asian Nazi soldiers.

Why do I click on NYPost links? Smh

On a serious note, this is a bad look. Google claims it wasn’t a universal issue and that it’s been fixed, so we’ll probably never know the scope or why it only happened with the word “Jew”. Maybe it didn’t recognize religions and only demonyms.

  • Critics accuse pro-Israel Republican mega-donors of trying to tip the scales in a Democratic primary
  • I’m certainly not denying Dems have pushed MAGA candidates (although for slightly different reasons, typically they are easier to beat in a general, not because Dems want them in office). However, the magnitude of the cross-party spending for a house primary here is significant.

  • Report: In Western Countries, 41% of the Jobs Done By Young People are at Risk Disappearing Due to Automation
  • And this happened during industrialization too. The world keeps evolving and politicians will always use it to fear monger.

If you told someone in 1850 how many people we’d have employed today as automobile mechanics, airplane techs, computer engineers, etc., they would be so lost. Just like we would be if someone from 2150 tried to tell us about their economy.
