Given the setting of this comic (Some time after 2001), wouldn't they have already known what happened to the WTC? And dude is using a corded, residential phone, so it couldn't have been that long after it 9/11...
I don't understand this weird Lemmy fascination with over-analyzing and breaking down shitposty jokes.
It's strange that you don't understand over-analyzing on Lemmy. It's a fairly frequent occurrence and the act of participating here implies a willingness to subscribe to that particular culture a significant part of which is over-analyzing things. Perhaps if you could you'd prefer to reject the over analytical nature of the site but by becoming a member of the community you become a part of the culture wholesale. I guess in that sense if you don't give in to that part of the culture you will in fact change it so maybe by you being here and not understanding it, over analysis becomes slightly less a part of the intrinsic culture of Lemmy.

Yeah, because the other dude's clothing style and the phone point to it being set in the 90s. Maybe even the 80s. He's receiving a call from the future. If you look up pics and vids of Chandler Bing in the 90s, you can see him wearing this type of outfit several times.
