Decided to start that sci-fi tv series Silo and the reviews mostly being about Rebecca Ferguson's accent kinda shit me. It doesn't detract from her acting or the show so I don't get what the big deal is. Like are people really upset she doesn't have that generic American accent and think that constitutes "bad acting".
I’m half way through and enjoying it. Though the pacing is a bit off. I feel like it blew its load plot wise in the first 2 eps and now we’re in danger of another lost or manifest….
I like her character and acting too but her accent is all over the place! And it does break the immersion a little bit.
I agree on the pacing, I'm on ep three and there's a bit of a drop.
Maybe it's because I watch lots of foreign language stuff and I used to listen to accents all day everyday for work so it doesn't bother me at all. Obviously I hear her jumping around but it does wreck my immersion or anything.
I watched 4 or 5 of them and got annoyed at the slowness and haven't watched more. I just read what the deal is online and went "ah ok" and felt I know what I wanted to know from the show, not interested in watching it happen really. Maybe I'll revisit it sometime.
I didn't think twice about her accent though.. I never expect anything from accents in future sci-fi because who knows how language and accents will evolve or why. Like in The Expanse.
I've already guessed what's going on anyway (I guessed it in the first ep), it wasn't hard, and Google confirmed my suspicions. I'll probably stick it out because I spend a lot of my work hours watching TV.
