As a dramatic oversimplification: how dare you tell us that forcing domestic pets into a vegan diet is animal cruelty! We're going to make our own instance, with blackjack and hookers!
There was some stuff about vegan users being harassed after the "vegan pets" debacle too, but they're effectively "We need our own space where we can be as dramatically vegan as we want to be with no opposition".
are they as bad as the vegan subreddit was? It straight up put me off becoming a vegan because they are just such fucking assholes. I was trying to see if they had any good studies for health benifits because I don't find ethical veganism convincing personally. And they came up with what amounted to a slur to discuss non vegans (no it is not an actual slur but they sure used it like one) and it was fucking hilarious because carnist sounds way more badass than omnivore.
Misogynist men said the said thing about feminism in the 1950s.
They literally already said they weren't looking to convert to veganism for moral reasons, so I don't know what point you think you're making.
There was a willing ally in the reduction of meat consumption and the mainstreaming of vegan options, but the vegan community they encountered decided that insufficient orthodoxy was reason enough to encourage their 'carnist' enemy to go back to murdering animals for food.
If someone in 1918 says, "I don't think women are equal, but I do think they deserve the vote", the correct response is not to attack them; it's to make common cause with them until women get the vote - and fuck, that they're already ahead of the curve may mean that they can be swayed by the positions of their new allies.
But many online vegans (and I specify online, since the only vegans I've met irl have been pretty nice folks, even to a 'carnist' like me) treat it as a religion, a fashion; an identity.
Meat is murder - but murder, apparently, is preferable to wrongthink.
1: unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception.
Slavery
1.
a: the practice or institution of holding people as chattel involuntarily and under threat of violence
b : the state of a person who is forced usually under threat of violence to labor for the profit of another
c: a situation or practice in which people are coerced to work under conditions that are exploitative
I think this is the fundamental disconnect between vegans and non vegans. I think most non vegans have a human centric moral system and vegans have a much more all encompassing moral system.
Is keeping bees harming them? This isn't a straw man I have seen people seriously argue that it is. What about keeping chickens just for eggs. They are safer than they would be in the wild and you don't have to do any form of artificial insemination. What about keeping goats for milk?
Edit: Holy shit I got the CJ treatment if feel like a star. This is fucking hilarious.
I murdered an animal the other week. Not even for food. Its corpse is off rotting somewhere now.
Separately, I have some animal-murder spray below the sink for when the warm weather comes. Usually don't need it, but in an apartment, you never can tell.
Or you could actually read the science. Recent studies in the last 3 years point to the contrary. That is misrepresenting the situation as synthetic taurine, B12 and vitamin A can be provided in a plant-based diet through the form of reputable kibble brands.
I doubt that….: stirring The very argument that caused an exodus, against the people who didn't leave with the same arguments that was had last time, and ignoring the same rebuttals as last time; …will result in a different outcome.
