THAT CARTOON CHARACTER HAS MELANIN
ON WHAT EARTH IS THIS OK?!?!?!?
41 5 ReplyHasn’t Disney had Poc characters since the 90s, hence predating the term woke by several decades?
7 1 ReplyThe term woke is at least around 100 years old.
It was specifically a reminder to stay “woke” (awake) of the threat of lynching.
2 0 ReplyYes words come from places. Etymology is a thing. But ask anyone in the mainstream 1950s or 1990s, they will have no idea what “woke” means, in the cultural context of that time and place.

Well, Disney has had POC characters since at least 1946, but we don't talk about that one.
10 1 Reply... I want to talk about that one. I don't know Disney history, wtf did they do in 1946? I'm assuming something super racist
4 1 ReplyThere’s also the original 1940 version of Fantasia.
That Dumbo has a crow named “Jim” in a group of three behaving remarkably like minstrel show characters is also… unpleasant.
