I think machine sentience is heavily regulated and also susceptible to psykers while having no psychic potential of their own, so the combatants are biological and the lifting stuff is done by machines.
I'll sanction the use of servitors but these machines sound dangerously close to abominable intelligences. I'll have to report you to the commissar.
