MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE YOU ALMOST GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO GET PEOPLE NOT TO WORK FOR YOU.
Literally just had the rudest interview of my life with a lady who basically told me that they are "hiring" but not really (and even though it said "some nights" she basically said all nights) and got scolded like she was my mother over me wanting $13 per hour (mind you I said I was fine with $11 per hour because I need the money and I've made over $20 per hour so it's not like I was really exaggerating)... anyway I know some people don't like their job but GEEZ lady, she asks me more questions (and mind you this is just the phone interview and I did this first thing this morning so clearly she knows I was looking forward to the interview/prepared and basically rubs it in my face that I am basically not gonna get the job).
I answer more of her questions like "What is good customer service" and I answer "active listening and really focusing on what the customer wants, etc. etc." and she proceeds to LAUGH AUDIBLY ON THE PHONE AT MY ANSWERS and says "well this is awkward"....lady you are the one making it awkward like WTF?
I finally lose it when she says in a critical tone "were you like ever promoted or anything" while also mentioning like 20 more times that they probably don't have an opening (so asking questions for her amusement I guess???...I literally just hung up...
Anyway the job hunt is going amazing in 2023.

I have a major problem with this, he wants me to put it on my personal phone. We don't have company phones. I called him and explained to him I do not feel comfortable putting an invasive app on my personal phone, and it turned into an argument with him telling me he doesn't understand and it's not a big deal. The original was posted on /r/antiwork by /u/Ordinary_Diamond_158 on 2023-06-27 10:42:28+00:00. *** Today I was caught by head of HR when I clocked in and brought to the conference room out of no where. I was very confused and asked why I was being fired (because naturally given the big boss and my sections Big boss and head of HR were in there with me that’s where my brain went). I was told I’m not being fired, but we need to get to the bottom of a situation.
For reference I’m new, just got off training 2 weeks ago and was only hired in late April level of new. I had zero idea there was anything to get to the bottom of, so I clammed up and waited to be told more. After some beating around it, they finally said it has come to their attention I dislike a coworker; and since we are a “family” here, that’s not going to fly. I finally got which coworker and actually laughed.
This coworker “Kate” was training me my second week. In 25 minutes she asked if I was a lesbian. Kate then asked my opinion on abortion, religion in public schools and gay marriage. When I gave her no answers to go off and flatly refused to share my sexual orientation Kate went off on a 1.5 hour tirade to me and another coworker “Manny” about all of the above with some frightening opinions that would make the staunchest conservative uncomfortable.
I finally shut the situation down by asking Kate flatly if I needed to go do some work alone or was she going to teach me.
I never brought this up to anyone ever again, because Kate is 17 and still learning how to function and what “there’s a time and place” means. Apparently Manny finally got bothered enough by it to bring it up to Kate’s sister “Sam” who works here on occasion.
Sam, realizing the gravity of that conversation rushed to warn HR that there was a potential ticking time bomb between me and Kate that they may want to address. HR then took that to mean I just don’t like Kate, without actually reading what the email was warning about.
HR now doesn’t like me because I refused to apologize to Kate for making her “uncomfortable” and to Manny for including her in “petty rivalry” between me and Kate. I also refused to apologize to Sam who apparently has been “distressed” by this situation and won’t sign the form saying I’ve addressed my concerns about workplace hostility and absolve them of responsibility.
Big boss is on the war path over this, HR wants me gone i think but can’t figure out how to do it. And my departments Big boss told me don’t stress it, and if I want a mediation with Kate and Manny she will sit in as the observer “just in case HR gets confused again”.
So yeah, fun times. I hate working for idiots.

Employers need to stop being LAZY and train people instead of waiting for the pitch perfect candidates to fall out of the sky
This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot.
The original was posted on /r/antiwork by /u/knickknack93 on 2023-06-26 22:26:48+00:00. *** Many job requirements/prerequisites are bullshit and it’s incredibly frustrating how many employers will pass over potentially great candidates who can LEARN, all because they don’t fit a job to the T.
Average job ad requirements are a mile long, wanting this certification, that diploma, this many years of experience, this type of licensing, this brand of shoe (/sarcasm, but they may as well). It’s ridiculous. Part of the modern day hiring crisis isn’t workers fault, it’s due to employers, recruiters, and HR being full of themselves.
Jobs, especially trades, used to invest more in their employees when it came to training and teaching the ropes. You could have a high school diploma and work your way up and learn along the way. Now it seems like if you don’t come into the job basically already knowing EVERYTHING and then some, you’re not good enough. Obviously this doesn’t apply to every field, but I can’t be the only one who’s seeing it in their line of work and others.
Employers are shooting themselves in the foot being so goddamn obnoxious.
Let’s take the non-profit world— my god, don’t even get me started. Some of the most demanding and selfless work with the highest education requirements yet lowest pay (I recognize teaching is in the same ballpark). You’re basically required to have a Masters Degree to scrub toilets while also doing casework and home visits.
I’m typing this out of frustration because I interviewed for a higher paying non-profit job 2 weeks ago (I have 4.5 years experience+ a BA), and they just told me their reasoning for not hiring me is because I have 6 months less experience in my field than what they’re ideally looking for 🙃 Give me a friggin BREAK.

Terminated from job because I "didn't do anything" about a thief stealing someones belongings in a store. Despite store policy saying to do nothing, AND I was ordered to work inventory. Still fired.

I want to mention before going into this ridiculous firing that's going to negatively impact my life, by pointing out my business has a strict no pursuit policy by management. if someone is stealing, eating, or breaking (intentionally) anything in the store, not only can we not try to stop them, or be directly confrontational, but if they leave a mess we can't start cleaning it up until they leave the store to prevent confrontation as well.
Yet, this video of this women stealing personal belonging from a seniors cart is apparently according to my leading management team, my fault(??). because I was the 'team leader' on duty, a made up label they give when they trick you that you're getting promoted, but instead have more responsibility added on to your work day remaining a regular employee on paper. Notice in the video, there's only two people involved, yet the lead management team agreed together to blame me?
I was in the back doing the mandated inventory that had to be done quickly, I had one manager on the floor come for a store visit seeing me helping deal with some aggressive customers assisting fellow staff, and I was yelled at for wasting time. So not only where staff doing what top management were commanding, but I specifically who is "in charge" sortof of the store, but not really a management employee, was commanded to go do inventory. So everyone was doing what we were told, however because of this incident caught on camera I was blamed.
Because I "didn't do anything" or notice the problem "quick enough" despite no one knowing what happened until the lady reported her stuff was stolen prompting us to check the cameras, I was called an employee with "no integrity" and terminated effective immediately. All overtime which is to the discretion of top management I was told starting Friday to Sunday would be removed from my paycheck. My next paycheck will arrive on schedule next Friday, yes they pulled this crap in the middle of two pay periods, and I'm going to have a smaller check due to this termination. Oddly only me and another female employee were fired and no one else.
I contacted a few local workers groups and labor contacts, who referred me to attorneys however I only ended up with one who will look into possible violations but won't be able to see me until Monday the 10th(July) to explore the "possibility" of taking action against them.
My biggest concern is that this garbage firing is poorly timed. it's in the middle of two pay periods meaning my next check is going to be small because I'm not going to be working at the company anymore, I can't shop in the store itself for a year after being fired (company policy) which means I cannot shop there for cheaper food and necessities (unless it's online which costs more than in store), and I needed money for a medical leg injury I had to address since my poor coverage wouldn't cover everything out of pocket of $80, which is interesting because now I'm fired I'm about to lose that crappy coverage and will soon have none because that's how most US insurance works. I will also need to prioritize rent so I won't have any money for food, necessities, or cellphone as I look for a new job. Luckily getting another grocery job isn't difficult but it usually takes 2 weeks between hire and the background stuff, and then you have to work until the first check.
This whole thing puts me in a situation where I now have to pick between money for rent, and food+communication and since I need something over me I picked rent so now I'm up shits creek for a couple weeks. Since I'm out the city there's not many services out here, there's one limited food pantry and they have insane requirements. Car is out of the question now because no money for gas until I get a new job.
The whole thing throws my life upside down. Heck, I'm about to not even have a phone for someone from a new job to call me, because my plans is about to shut off.
Again, I would like to stress that this incident on camera here isn't me, has nothing to do with me, and I was in the back doing what I was unpolitely commanded to do by top management, and then the same top management team fires me because I "didn't do anything" about an event no one saw until the victim came to us prompting us to check the camera?
If I can get a job outside the grocery/product industry I'm never going back. It just keeps getting worse and they clearly don't care about their employees, now I went from paycheck to paycheck somewhat stable, to wondering what I'm going to do tomorrow. Corporate America is poison.
I have no idea how I'm going to make this work now, it's all depressing.
