I benchmarked 6 different metal USB sticks
  • Out of curiosity, could the Samsung and Sandisk not have been flipped over on the ring to fit at a better angle? I realize they'll run around the ring and be at the worse angle in your pocket from time to time but, I guess I'm just wondering how you made the measurement. The Samsung bar in the picture is at a solid 90 degrees to the GTX, which would be annoying as hell if the GTX was replaced by a set of keys lol

  • One of the most infuriating things
  • If someone ever says "I don't want your excuse" simply reply "I'm explaining what happened without excusing anything. Would you like to hear that?"

That never worked for me. The "I don't want your excuses" types were never looking for an answer they just wanted to be dicks.

Trying to further explain like in your quote above always produced "that's just more excuses!" or, "don't talk back to me" or "likely story..." or, "don't be a smartass!"

All bullshit. There are reasonable people out there but those who ask a question then berate the person they asked for answering (or for refusing to answer, when they already know the outcome) are just assholes who today will lose both my respect and attention.

  • Vance said Trump did not lose. Pants on Fire!
  • This headline makes it look like the lie is that Vance never said that.

As if saying "Vance never said Trump did not lose."

Took me a minute of reading the article to figure out that the lie you're calling out is what Vance said, not that he said it.

Edited for more clarity on my part (hopefully lol)

  • Is Lemmy an effective alternative to Reddit?
  • I'm honestly more afraid to offer an opinion or ask a question on Lemmy because there's always some high and mighty jackass that thinks they are the final authority on whatever topic and rather than have a discussion, people seem to just resort to name calling.

At least, that has been my experience.

Otherwise I've enjoyed it. It can be a cool place once you figure out how to block the malcontents.

  • My mental health has improved after deleting games that have microtransactions in them
  • Maybe its the 'tism but I never gave a shit about most microtransactiony things unless they have a "pay-to-win" element. That's why I gave up on GTA online.

But if its just like "exclusive skins", I could give a shit. My default skinned character can still win against a guy in a bear-suit with a golden AK and that's really all I need. I have no particular FOMO of not winning the fashion part of the game.

I do wish games I could turn off their constant begging for my money though.

  • Why self host a password manager?
  • Could one not theoretically self-host a PW manager that also keeps a local copy of the database for times with no internet?

Idk if that doesn't exist yet or what, and there are plenty of other reasons against self-hosting a PW manager but that seems like a logical work-around for that particular problem. Keep your access when the internet is down, and keep your data out of third party control.

  • How to Socialize?
  • Agreed, however I recommended against "good talk", personally.

No one has ever said that to me after having what might actually be considered a "good" talk. I find it's usually only said by someone who has tried to start a conversation and I have failed to effectively reciprocate.

  • TIL miniblinds with pull cords to raise and lower them are now illegal to sell in the United States
  • Even if you braid it while the blinds are already closed it won't work?

I haven't tried this yet but want to try when I get home. I worry about my cats getting tangled and one cord would be better than whatever the hell is going on with it now lol.
