What DEs are people using?
  • Win+ijkl moves the window to the next edge with the "MoveToEdge" function, snapping it around the screen.

Win+Shift+ijkl grows the window from any edge.

Win+Ctrl+ijkl shrinks the window from any edge.

Win+Cursor switches desktops, Win+Ctrl+Cursor sends window to other desktops.

It seems intuitive to me because ijkl is used for actions within the desktop, cursor keys (reaching farther) are for between desktops.

  • [Question] Easiest distro and install method for NextCloud on old laptop?
  • Thanks, it does look like it might be easier than docker.

  • [Question] Easiest distro and install method for NextCloud on old laptop?
  • Thanks, this was looking like my default option. Do you use the official image or AIO?

  • XFCE with the WM replaced with Openbox. Ask me about my Openbox keyboard bindings for window moving and resizing :)

I kind of want to try KDE again, but I still feel it's too laggy, at least on my machine with intel graphics.

  • Easiest distro and install method for NextCloud on old laptop?

Hi, I have an old ThinkPad that's running Arch for some self-hosted things, but I want to repurpose it to be dedicated to NextCloud with file sync and some apps (mainly Photos). Setting it up from scratch with Arch packages looks like way too much work. Should I use the Docker image on the existing OS, or a different package type, or wipe and start with a new OS?

I'm looking for the easiest solution that still has good performance and isn't going to break when it updates.

  • In my experience, adding folder shortcuts in Thunar (XFCE's file manager) makes them also appear in Firefox. I believe it's some sort of config shared among all GTK apps. So you can try installing Thunar and adding shortcuts in the left pane, then see if they show up in Firefox and other apps.
