More than 1,000 birds killed in one night after hitting the same Chicago building
  • While you’re not wrong about how humanity isn’t serious about cutting energy use, the lights in taller buildings like I assume these were could equate to much much less energy used when opposed to one or two story buildings surrounded by parking lots that require employees to drive to them.

Preview app unable to edit documents on the Desktop and in Documents synced with OneDrive

My team and I are deploying OneDrive to nearly all of our clients and enabling Backup/Known Folder Move. We’ve had a lot of issues, but one thing that has recently come up that I can’t find an answer for is this message in the Preview app when opening a document in the Desktop or Documents folders - “The original document can’t be changed, so a duplicate with your changes has been created” The file(s) in question have the correct permissions and ownership (I’ve even tried setting the permissions to 777…), are not locked, and are otherwise editable once outside of the Desktop and Documents folders. Even more weird is that once you save the “duplicate” mentioned in the message above, you can rename it to the original name and overwrite the original document with no errors or issues. Any ideas what is going on? I’ve also tried removing any x attributes on the file before opening it in Preview. Once I open the file, I get the same message and I can use xattr -l my_file to see that Preview has added com.apple.quarantine: 0082;64c950c7;Preview; to the file… What the heck Preview?

    College rule
  • Meanwhile my college professor was the author of the textbook and workbook that were required materials for the class conveniently sold at ridiculous prices in the college book store and could only be used once due to needing to tear out pages to turn in.

  • Your value is not determined by your productivity.
  • Just FYI, I agree that materialist value is not the only value to look for in other people, but “The value is not measured by metrics” doesn’t make sense because metrics are by definition measured.

  • Is there an e-bike with a wheel hub motor and internal gear shifting?
  • Totally forgot that belt drives were a thing honestly lol but that sounds pretty sick! I have heard that belt drives are not quite as efficient as chains at delivering power which can be important if you’re low on battery or something. Is there a noticeable difference for you between the effort you give on a belt drive vs a chain drive?

  • Is there an e-bike with a wheel hub motor and internal gear shifting?

I like my e-bike a lot, but cleaning the gears and keeping them calibrated can be a PITA. The wheel hub motor is nice because my chain just keeps on giving even after 2300 miles, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of an internal gear hub combined with a a wheel hub electric motor.
