That escalated quickly 😬
  • For me, Duolingo plus middle school and highschool spanish has helped me tremendously. It does get repetitive and daunting at points but that's honestly a good thing as it reinforces and reminds you of certain things you may forget or get wrong.

The gamification of it actually helped me push harder than i would have thought being competitive for the weekly rankings as well as with my ADHD.

Of course I'm still not amazing at spanish but I can hold a very simple conversation, follow along with conversations people are speaking and pick up on context, speak to spanish speakers where they compliment it and say it's perfect, and I can read it and write it very well.

It could very well just be me and my dedication to it but with a 61 day streak and at minimum of 15 minutes a day while using a journal to write down any and everything I can and practicing Spanish at work, while watching spanish cartoons, I would say Duolingo has been absolutely worth it for me

  • Perfect for a X-Mas one shot
  • I singled out Ashkenazi jews as most westerners aren't aware of other groups such as Mizrahi or Sephardi. It was for ease of following conversation in case anyone else stumbled upon the comment thread. And yeah, I was referring to the original pronunciation of the letter and the original form of the Tetragrammaton.

In terms of the usage of Adonai, Elohim, El Shaddai, or even Hashem, those are used at titles such as "Lord" and not the actual name of the Deity of Abraham correct? When you said "multiple names of God", I assumed you meant the Kaballah teaching that there are 72 names of God

  • Perfect for a X-Mas one shot
  • Vav is a product of ashkenaszi pronunciations due to yiddish. Originally it's Waw. And the multiple names for God thing comes from Kaballah which certain groups of Jews actually do reject as mysticism and not originally being grom Judaism but added in after the second temple period due to the Zohar. Certain groups such as the Kairaites for example, even reject the Talmud, Mishnah, and Kaballah and stick to Torah and Tanakh only

  • *Permanently Deleted*
  • There are several different ethnic groups of Jews. Ashkenaszi (European Jews and what westerners automatically assume a Jewish person is and looks like), Sephardic Jews, Yemeni Jews, Ethiopian Jews, Karaite Jews, and so many more. As well, the Jewish people have been subjugated to being forced to move and travel and who knows what the people of the time of Jesus would have actually looked like.

  • Why are we as humans obsessed with mass-extinction of our species?

I was having a conversation with my friend about this. We were discussing AI and she believes AI will destroy all of humanity just like so many others. I personally don't believe that. I'm aware of all the theories and the multitude of ways that it could happen and I understand that with AI, in theory we wouldn't understand its goals so we wouldn't know how it would destroy us but again, that's just a theory.

There's also the constant fear of massive nuclear holocaust with WWIII but I also don't believe that we'd realistically get to a point where we'd use Nukes on each other knowing the implications of what would happen. But it made me realize that we're constantly fearful of mass extinction. To the point where some people fight tooth and nail and will not try to look at things from a more positive or optimistic perspective. It's all death or you're wrong.

Please help me understand this. I'm here with open ears.

    Sloth and baby😁😍
  • Specifically the Two Toed Sloth. They're way cuter than the three toes Sloth and they have nice each independent digit (toe) unlike the three toed sloth. Baby two toed sloths also sound like human babies

  • Another big thing is that a lot of people didn't like how the DNC snubbed Bernie. He was clearly in the lead until I think it was South Carolina? And then Hillary all of a sudden was the pick. Most people I know (and it could be cause I'm Gen Z and what I see due to my community), wanted Bernie and Bernie alone and we're very pissed

  • It could just be me, but from what I've seen of those around me as I'm Gen Z myself, a lot of us ARE aware of local elections and how important they are. We actively do vote in them. It may have a much bigger impact the next go around but we'll all have to just wait and see

  • Barack Obama Is Also Scared Shitless That Donald Trump Could Win Another Term: Report
  • Well experts say that Biden has a good chance of winning if he runs against Trump. In fact, Allen Lichtman has predicted every election correct since 84 except Bush vs Gore. But that was due to Florida fucking with the votes. He himself says Biden has a strong chance of winning if Trump is picked as the Republican forerunner. Which they obviously will pick him.

The problem with 2016 was that Republicans clearly couldn't take having a black president for 8 years to then go and have a woman be the next president right after that. Then Trump who just said any and everything to appease to then crazies of this country and they came out in droves. As well, Hillary just wasn't that charismatic in her debates

  • Barack Obama Is Also Scared Shitless That Donald Trump Could Win Another Term: Report
  • I'm not scared of him being in office because I have confidence that he won't be elected. I know the whole mindset on Reddit and Lemmy is fear of him being back in office but with more young voters who are overwhelmingly left leaning being able to vote, the Republicans shooting themselves in the foot overturning Roe V Wade, and all of the ass backwards policies they're putting in place, more people aren't gonna let this happen in 2024. But I understand the fear completely and it is justified

  • Can we prevent Lemmy from being so political?

Just as the title suggest. Is there anyway we can prevent Lemmy from being such a giant sphere of political annoyance just like Reddit? No matter where you go on reddit before the API changes and even now, someone has to bring politics into it. Even in post or subreddits where it's not needed.

So once again, is there anyway we can stop that from happening and just allow the communities in Lemmy to be genuine?
