  • Notes:

I don't like that most notes apps don't let you access to your files, relying instead in cloud synching. One of the few that gives you full control is https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.gsantner.markor/

It let you chose a folder where to save your notes and can manage many types of files (markdown, txt, todo, csv, etc)

I like saving my notes on my SD card, I created different folders to work as notebooks, so for example, I have a folder named "comments" where I edit my comments before posting, one for lists, one for lyrics of songs I like and I'm thinking about making one for cooking recipes.

    Music:

    https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.poupa.vinylmusicplayer/
    https://f-droid.org/en/packages/player.phonograph.plus

    and https://f-droid.org/en/packages/ch.blinkenlights.android.vanilla

Are the best for offline experience. I really like vinyl's and phonograph's plus UI, simple, yet powerful. Both supports lyrics, metadata editing and at least vinyl can connect to the internet to grab artist picture and bio which can be displayed offline, I'm not sure if phonograph can since it's main focus is privacy and to work fully offline.

The issue i have with both is that they don't work properly on my Samsung tab, I think is the awful Samsung bloatware that makes them stop, and not make full use of all their features.

Vanilla UI isn't the best looking but it has many features when combined with the extensions. The best Foss metadata fetcher and editor. The problem the app have is that it isn't update frequently, and at the moment it has a problem with the notifications. There's already a PR opened in github, so hopefully this get fixed soon.

    Keyboard

I'm currently using 2 keyboard apps https://github.com/Helium314/openboard as my main and https://f-droid.org/en/packages/rkr.simplekeyboard.inputmethod When I'm tire of the autocorrector changing what I write. I know I can disable it on openboard, but most of the times I actually use it and simple board is just more fluid.

  • (Android Authority) Don’t expect Firefox for Android to get tablet UI anytime soon
  • I use Firefox everyday on my Samsung tab and works fine

  • OpenAI finally admitted they're crawling the web to profit off of GPT. Block it from your sites using robots.txt.
  • Let's said I use AI to write a book, in that case, AI will just grab what someone's else wrote.

Let's said I use AI to Write code, AI will just copy someone's else code.

Let's said I use AI to make art, AI uses Someone's else art.

Then, let's said I sell the book, use the code and make nft's with the art, since AI "did it" I don't have to follow any license or give credit to anyone.

About using only public information, that should be an opt in, but instead AI companies are just taking public internet, putting it inside a can a selling it, you like it or not.

  • Is PeerTube a good Youtube alternative?
  • Yes, but it suffers the same problem the rest of the fediverse does: the lack of people.

If you are looking for an alternative to consume content, maybe odysee will be a better option.

Anyway, you can watch peertube using the newpipe app.

  • Should we be using hashtags and mentions more?
  • Hashtags are basically tags, if put a # before a word, the post, it'll create a link to that tag and I'll be easy to find similar content.

So for example if I use #bunny and you tap the link, all content with that hashtag will be displayed.

  • Rant: I hate the term “normie”.
  • I also read the comment about the racist uncle, it was a discussion of the different kind of people facebook (I won't call it meta) will be going to expose us when they join the fediverse. The person who post it wasn't attacking the "normies".

About the term "normie" isn't necessary an insult or just a person who isn't up with technology, but instead someone who enjoy more basic things. Is OK to be a normie if that's makes you happy.

I don't get why is OK for them to call us "nerds" (most of the times in a not sarcastic manner) but not for is to call them "normies" (in a sarcastic manner).

Most of the times that we invite a "normie" to the fediverse they reject us, "I don't like that", "facebook is better", " that's for nerds" they say, and that happens also with music, books, even food, they are just comfortable with how things are and that's OK.

It isn't that we are gatekeeping, but instead that they don't want to join us.

  • Suggestion for an icon on this magazine
  • I agree with a more minimalist style, in small screens and from far away it'll be blurry and just a mess. Maybe expand the idea and use it for a banner or something, maybe having a different character for each console.

Anyway, I modified the image. Changed Marco with Nadia so there's also a girl in the picture and added Megaman (I can't believe I forgotten him with the first version).

  • Maybe pacman but instead of follwing ghosts he's after Mario, sonic and ET

  • They stole the internet from the people and we have to take it back
  • Here are some alternative:
    https://alternativeto.net/software/imgur/

At the moment I'm using mastodon, it works.

  • Twitter locked behind login page.
  • Nitter has that option, just add /rss at the end of the URL and it'll work.

    Like this:
    https://nitter.net/Pokemon/rss

Which is an actual account I follow via RSS.

  • They stole the internet from the people and we have to take it back
  • Instead of reddit use Kbin/Lemmy

    Instead of twitter use Mastodon

    Instead of YouTube use Peertube/Odysee

By the way, we should stop using imgur for pictures

  • How to transfer notes to another phone
  • Without knowing which notes app you are using it may be difficult to help you.

I hate that most notes apps save your files somewhere you can't easily access, fortunately I found Markor which has the feature to let me chose where to save my notes.

    https://www.f-droid.org/packages/net.gsantner.markor/

As I said, without knowing which app you are using is not easy to give you a valid advice, all I can think right know is using the clipboard to copy/paste the notes content to an app like markor, Notes or Collaboration Office and save the file on an SD card.
