New MM cob mod

Just loaded up this modified Missouri Meerschaum General for the first time, which I turned into a stubby nosewarmer. Going to work on the buffing a bit more and I'm waiting on a Vermont Freehand stem that will make this even shorter, but it's good to go for a spin now. Smoking some Accountant's Mixture.

About to take my first cob mod for a spin

Has anybody else here ever modded a corncob pipe? Just finished this Missouri Meerschaum General modification; I created a contrast stain by applying dye, sanding, and repeating several times. I then gave it two coats of shellac and buffed it with carnuba wax. I also shortened (albeit only slightly) the bowl and the wood stem before applying a silver ferrule and a forever stem.

The inaugural smoke is going to be C&D Pegasus.

  • I tend to smoke Englishes in them. Current favorites: Presbyterian, Father Dempsey, Sutliff Match 965. But I also will load them up with a burley, DFK, or Balkan and they perform admirably. They only things I don't smoke in them are aros and Virginias; I have other pipes for those.

  • I love both the form and function of a poker. I have a couple of Savinelli 311KS, which I find to be a well balanced example of the shape and are probably my favorite briar pipes.
