Whats something you constantly lose that you wish you could always be able to have without needing to hunt it down repeatedly?
  • I have a simple rule now: "in the case, or on my face".

Sunnies on my face? Clear pair in the case. Clear pair on my face? Sunnies in the case.

Case is in my EDC bag.. And DOES NOT EVER LEAVE THAT POCKET..

The ONLY exception is when sleeping, I have a bedside nose holder my clear specs go on.

  • Off My Chest: I just had a very long talk with my father
  • I've just had to explain to the 80yo grandmother that you can't yell at my 19yo son because his anxiety ticks are annoying you.

She went full send on telling him that no woman or friends would ever want to be around him unless he stopped.. She got even angrier because she yelled at him to stop, and the ticking got louder and more frequent.. (duh..)

The only way I managed to get even a glimpse of consideration out of her was to leverage her pride in being a "baby whisperer" as a grandmother, and explained that yelling at an anxious ND about their ticks is like yelling at a baby to make them stop crying...

Only then did she stop for even a moment and actually have a thought about what was happening...

She still yells at him, but at least now we have a way to puller her back a little, as this description makes her feel terrible enough about it, that she leaves him alone for a bit out of feeling guilty...

  • looking for meaning
  • I'd love it if you could expand on this to help me understand better..

I've had meditation suggested to me many times, and I just don't get it...

It leaves me wondering "What am I missing?"!

  • What are your strategies to not be late?
  • Similar to many others on here, I'm terrible at time estimation, so I have to literally track backwards from the time I need to be there with things I need to do along the way, so:

Need to be there at 8am Driving takes 30mins (730) Shower 15mins (715) Tidy up and get my travel drink 20mins (0655) etc.

Then I also usually add 15mins to get lost or find parking. (0640)

Then I know what time to get up etc.

(Then I usually panic that I need more buffer and add another 30mins and get up at 0610!)

Oh.. And the calendar thing. If its not in the calendar, it doesn't happen...

  • Do y'all have any music or playlists you find particularly helpful when trying get work tasks done? (The computer kind of work)
  • Anything with a fast beat and no lyrics.

I have a Spotify playlist I found called "drum'n'bass no lyrics" that fits the bill.

Also use any of the bonkers releases (favourite is bonkers 14) but they have lyrics.. I've found that once I've listened to them a few times though I don't notice the lyrics anymore...

  • Thoughts on my next backpack
  • https://www.boundarysupply.com/collections/prima-system-1

Best backpack I've ever owned for EDC and camera.

I've also added the mk1 camera cube for trips where I take a lot of camera gear.

Just be aware the company is REALLY slow to ship... Like, TRAGICALLY bad... I had to wait months each time I've bought stuff.. That being said though, I'd wait again... And I'm about to buy a new prima system as this one is getting old (after many years of EDC) and I'm looking at the XPAC version.

  • ADHD-friendly online jobs
  • I've made a career out of my ADHD in a presales engineering role.. (And ending up in product management).

I did need to get the social aspects under control (mostly learning to slow down, and to learn when to shut up!), but this was all very manageable if you can take feedback and hyperfocus on putting it in action... 🤪

I liked that I got to work on the 20% of the customers problem that was the "rocket science" bit, and we would sell consulting services to do the bits that were more like "making license plates"...

Also, having a new audience every week meant I got to really practice and hone my presentation and soft skills which are super important.

  • Where do you carry your stuff?
  • I backpack it everywhere. I love boundary supply, but they're expensive and lord almighty are they slow to ship...

That being said, I EDC a Prima system as it also hadles my laptops and camera gear which travels with me frequently. I've just added one of their bottle carriers to the shoulder strap and I've got another one to install...

In addition to the backpack, I've moved to pants with plenty of pockets. I live in 5.11 cargos (pants or shorts) and even wear the 5.11 tactical jeans which have an extra pair of pockets (usually for ammo. I use them for wallet and phone...)

  • My son uses Arch... How do I know? He tells me... Constantly...

Updated template. Had no idea on who the knucklehead from the original template was.

Oh how I wish grapheneOS could run on a serviceable phone,.

I really wish that my love of privacy respecting technology could couple with my love of sustainable and repairable ownership respecting technology...

I know GrapheneOS leverages security features only found in the pixel, but a fella can dream, can't he?
