  • Advertising spend has dried up and the shareholders are looking for growth. I don't mind paying for YouTube Premium but I get it much cheaper than that because I connect via VPN when I pay for it. I use Romania but other people recommend Turkey or Argentina or any of the other countries that are having issues with their currencies.

  • Premium is a great service for $4 a month and it's just handy to be able to use the real YouTube app when you need to. I personally use SmartTube on my Android TV and I absolutely love it.

I also use NewPipe x SponsorBlock on my phone if I want to listen to podcasts without any ad reads and it's occasionally handy if I want to listen to music on YouTube and not keep my screen on although I use Spotify for music most of the time.

PlexAmp is great for my MP3 collection which is all on a Plex server in the cloud along with all my movies and TV shows. UI is a little quirky but it has all sorts of cool features like AI powered suggestions that use GPT4 tech and lots of other cool stuff

  • Yeah, don't forget about the grueling six weeks of development time too, it's practically Dickensian

This isn't a divorce proceedings, a judge hasn't mandated that I keep Lawrence in the lifestyle that he's become accustomed to. Not am I responsible for his bottom line, and tripling prices is probably going to hurt him because I assume a lot less people are going to pay it, just because it's triple the price for a lot less

Plus people who are inclined to get these lifetime subscriptions probably did already in the Reddit app 13 months ago so they're a little pissed off about that too, I would imagine. And the fact there has been no attempts to offer discounts or whatever. It's a swizz

I don't give a shit about $115, it's easy to make $115. It's just the principle. $50 might be different? I wouldn't need to think too long before buying that. Or $50 if you had a Reddit Lifetime subscription maybe

  • Absolutely, I bought lifetime the day it was offered 13 months ago, to not have at least some sort of discount on the new lifetime subscription is a bit of a piss take, as is the fact it's tripled to 115 fucking dollars

  • It's possible, but if he's suddenly charging $115 for something that was $35 and that also kinda gets you less then he's not exactly thinking logically. Or maybe he knows something about market forces that I don't? Charge triple the price and offer "less" and maybe the people will come?

He's a talented dev and I've been a long time supporter but he's really shitting the bed here

  • Thank you for the quick turn around on removing ads
  • $115 for the lifetime option that I paid $35 for 13 months ago and $3 before that? It's a scumbag cash grab for basically rejigging an existing app. Off to Mobilism to check if anyone has cracked it yet, because I'm not giving this clown another cent

  • Appreciation post for Liftoff not collecting user data or injecting ads.
  • "Something" is $115 for the lifetime subscription. I paid $35 for the same thing 13 months ago, and it was $3 before that. He didn't exactly build the app from scratch either. It's greed, so I'll be getting the cracked version on Mobilism as soon as it's released
