Mastodon vs BlueSky
  • Agree

  • Mastodon vs BlueSky
  • I use both and much prefer Mastodon. As others have said, it's more mature and the apps (of which there are many) are more polished. Bluesky is a bit glitchy and less feature rich. In fact, you still can't mute phrases on Bluesky, which is a deal breaker for me.

Mastodon is harder to find people due to the federated nature, although some mobile apps such as Megalodon on Android and Ice Cubes on iOS do pull follower and following lists from remote instances which makes it easier to find people.

Bluesky is more like old Twitter, and many people who I've followed for years are on there. Trying to out quip each other. Mastodon is more friendly and I've found lots of interesting people to follow.

  • 60 years of Doctor Who – including classic series – coming to BBC iPlayer
  • I wonder if it's too much to hope for 50hz versions. Seem to recall the Britbox episodes were 25hz (at least initially when I had a trial). I find classic Who unwatchable at 25hz sadly. Got to have that smooth video camera motion for the studio scenes!

  • Barber just fucked up my beard
  • I realise it's little consolation, but having not seen the before it looks great. I've had a beard for, like 20/30 years and rarely last more than a couple of months before getting annoyed with it, lopping the whole thing off and starting from scratch.

  • I've completely dropped off BF this year, and don't even have much of an idea of what has been released! Would appreciate a suggestion for what to jump into first. Thinking about the Second Doctor / James McCrimmon box if that's out yet.

  • New Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Photos — “Subspace Rhapsody”
  • Do we think this going to have a memory reset at the end? Looks like more of Kirk and Pike interacting, but iirc canonically prime Kirk is only supposed to meet prime Pike once (which they've already done).

  • what is your favorite f-droid app?
  • I'm a LibreTube person myself, but only because I can't figure out how to access a YT channel's playlists in NewPipe. A couple of my subscriptions have unlisted videos that are in playlists (for example MLIG live streams). LibreTube isn't perfect though. I cannot fully disable the "Home" page.

    Also

AntennaPod (Podcatcher), Imagepipe (Image manipulation esp exifdata), Tusky (mastodon client)

  • Hollow Knight White Palace finally completed
  • Unfortunately I played it on console... Either Switch or Xbox, but I see it's on sale on Steam at the moment, so maybe I'll give it a go on PC and can always fall back on some mods if need be. Thanks.

  • Hollow Knight White Palace finally completed
  • I'm getting a bit older and have mild arthritis and being forced to play games "as developers intended" really grinds my gears. I'm stuck someway through Hollow Knight and doubt I'll ever go back to it. Some of us are already playing things on hard mode!

  • Posted this on beehaw/games a few days ago, but wanted to share the amount of dust inside a PS3 that I bought O_O
  • More like "this is the PS3 that came with the pile of dust I bought."

  • Anyone else?
  • I honestly cannot remember when I last watched a movie. However, in the last week I've binged two seasons of Star Trek Discovery.

  • Considering cancelling my Pocket preorder
  • Thanks for the input. All good points, and what your saying is pretty much where my brain is at at the moment. In terms of sunk cost, there is a slight complication because I'm in the UK, so I will have about £50 to pay in import tax when it does eventually arrive.

I see the screen as being both a plus and a minus. The aspect ratio looks great for GB and GBC games, but less useful for GBA and 4:3 consoles like SNES and NES. The 4:3 screen of the Anbernic, despite being only 640x480, works create with those consoles and is a nice compromise for all platforms. Using the GarlicOS I can get nice interpolation on the GBA/SNES/NES and perfect integer scale on most others. The black bars seem more ugly on the Pocket to me... although that said, I just checked my order and I've ordered the black one, so I think the borders will be much less egregious than on the white.

Realistically I use my MegaSG and SuperNT for playing carts, and the MiSTer for everything else. So what I imagine happening is that I will use the Pocket for GB and GBC carts, and probably continued to play GBA games on one my modded GBAs for the aspect ratio.

I'll probably keep my order open for now, but if something else comes along I want to spend the money on, I may cancel it!

    Thanks!

  • Considering cancelling my Pocket preorder

I'm considering cancelling my Pocket pre-order and wonder if anyone can poke me in either direction.

I only ordered at the start of this year, so I don't expect to get anything until at least the end of 2023 if not 2024. However, I went ahead and got a RG35XX since it was only £60 in these parts. And... I'm loving it. But I realise I'm especially enjoying the save states for SNES games (which the Pocket doesn't have). Since I have kids it's means I can just turn it off, deal with their shenanigans, and go back later.

I already have a MiSTer, MegaSG and SuperNT. I ordered the Pocket because I have a 30 or 40 GB and GBA carts. But you know, I have a few GBs, GBAs and GBCs. So maybe the Pocket is unnecessary.

Anyway, this are just rambling thoughts in my head. Convince me one way or another! 😁

This community is brand new, and I am new to Lemmy and moderating in general. Please be kind 🙇
  • Good luck! I've subscribed at least. And I see there is an update to the MegaSG jailbreak firmware, so I've got value already!

  • Is Stonehenge worth ir?
  • Someone with more recent experience can probably answer better. But I went a good number of years ago, only because I was driving to Bournemouth and it was ok the way (sort of). It was BUSY and both inspiring and disappointing. Would I go again? Maybe, but probably not at the height of tourist season. Also it's about 100 miles from London, so it will take a good chunk of your day. I think you'd need to be in London for 5 days to a week to justify the day trip. But, that's just me!

  • Saturday chat thread
  • My getting old moan is that my hands barely function when I wake. I used to think it was because I lie on them, but apparently it's a form of arthritis. No doubt brought on my 30 years of work in videogames development. Luckily my SO has brought me a cup of tea to wrap my creaking hands around to warm them up and get them moving again.

  • I'm really striving to finish classic who before new who returns in november
  • I was raised with it! Tom was my doc, and Leela my companion. That said, I think I'd struggle with a complete watch. Best I ever did was about 13 years ago I had swine flu and was ill for two weeks, and blasted through all Jon Pertwee. Those first season ones with the 7 episode stories see did drag, but it all picked up when the Master appeared.

  • Best Gamepass Games on a Phone
  • Cassette Beasts requires a controller on game pass, sadly

  • What's a smaller or indie game you think everyone should play?
  • Thanks for the in depth comment. It's great and much appreciated. I'll definitely go back to it. Currently about 2/3rds through a playthrough of FF6, so once that's done I'll get back to Cross Code!

  • Here Are The 12 Games Leaving PS Plus Extra & Premium In July 2023 - TwistedVoxel
  • Agree that Stray is very good. It's not too long either. Shame about BioShock, but they are always on sale. Also I think the collection was a monthly game back in 2020, some of us may still have it.
