In the darkest of nights, you won't be scared, UNTIL the red pigeon arrives
I'm not your dad, but I'm proud of you. The absolute least I know about you is you don't mind admitting pain, so I'm proud of you. 🫂
To people who choose not to swear (for non-religious reasons), what is your motivation to be that way ?
Couple more optional questions
- Did the decision bring any change to your life ?
- Do you feel the decision stopped you from expressing something at some point ?
Mitochondria is the power house of the cell
This (arguably unhelpful) phrase seems to be taught across schools all over the world. What are some other phrases like this that are common ?
It means there is one capacity, not two or even three
It means when the author was waiting for his order at Popeyes, the guy in front who did small talk with him introduced himself as a Gitlab employee and told the author "Gitlab might sell in weeks. It is a deal or no deal"
What is a less popular type/genre of movies that you watch ? What makes it interesting for you ?
Also, if you can, how do you think others can appreciate it and may be some recommendations to get started with.
One of the funniest things humanity has done is to invent the concept of God as a super entity and then reduce him/them/it to their level.
Why would a super entity be bound by "love" which only humans understand ? Why would "it" have the concept of "evil", something that humans invented out of fear.
As a species we just need to accept we are just stupid.
Honestly at first read, the paper feels like a bunch of whining text to prove a point the author believes in without any alternate proposal.
Spot ... Spot ....... Spot .. Spot
To stop infinite scroll on social media, quickly scroll 2-3 screen lengths down without looking at the posts. Now read the posts scrolling up. Eventually you'll reach where you started and most probably the laziness to go all the way back will prompt you to exit the app.
But no matter how you change it, the overall experience in Android is inconsistent and sub par. Little things like flickering between switching apps or janky animation when the keyboard shows up is what causes poor Android experience.
Customisability is the bane of clean and consistent UI.
I'm curious, do you wear the bag diagonally or vertically shoulder to waist. Also, what's your usual attire ?
Unfortunately, "these people" have to live in a world where you exist too and your conflicting attitude affect their lives.
Learn to live and let live, my friend. You cannot expect the world to accept you if you are not ready to accept them.
Wow this is really cool. Thanks
How are engine sounds in racing games played ?
For example in forza, the game plays engine sounds based on how much we press the button. Are there different sequences of clips ? If yes how do they blend so well ? Or are they synthesized dynamically ?
There are so many parts to it as well - when the gear shifts, when you suddenly slow down at high speed, when you suddenly accelerate from stop. They all seem very realistic.
Edit: Thanks for the great answers everyone 🙏
Isn't web scraping copying ?
What are some marketing tactics that you dislike ?
For me it is when companies/services market themselves as donating to XYZ cause if I buy their product. If they want to donate, they should have already done that with the money they have. Asking me to give them profit so that they can donate is so obviously pretentious.
Product placements in it are terrible too
"Drake's coffee cakes ..."
The show has brought a lot of cringey memories to my life 🤢
Ok. I see now, you are just talking crap with intentional misinterpretation just for the sake of argument.
I'm glad that you understood my point though, otherwise you won't take this stupid tangent. Try to apply it in life.
This is my last comment on this. Have a nice day.
You are assuming my ethnicity wrong, but I'll go with it.
If I go to a restaurant where they specifically say it is disrespectful to eat something in a certain way, I would respect that. Or if I don't agree with it, I won't have food at their restaurant.
But I won't go to the restaurant just to prove their way of eating is wrong. That is where your dumb attitude comes in. You are basically the equivalent of wearing clown clothes to a funeral just because you don't agree with the etiquettes.
Learn to live among people, or live in your hole.
They are offering you a service and they follow a certain etiquette to have it, which is part of the service. If you can't follow it, don't be a customer.
Of course, the one that you make.
But if you are going to have it from a chef who says so at their restaurant, show some respect to their culture or else spend your money elsewhere.
You have 15$. How would you spend it so that you'll be the happiest you can be for 15$ ?
And yes you have to spend it all
Edit: There are a lot of little good things in these answers that I often ignore. Thanks everyone.
How to get a bit more positivity in the Lemmy feed ?
I know a lot of shitty things are happening in the world right now. But I get this feeling that most of the posts I see in lemmy feed are sad or depressing.
Are there any uplifting communities that I'm missing out on ?
Edit1: Thanks for the suggestions everyone
What are some things that you like to watch in the side or in the background when you do stuff ?
Edit: I'm basically looking for new topics to explore to add to my YouTube feed/subscriptions 😁
Edit2: Great recommendations. Thank you everyone
Using gaming controllers for anything other than gaming ?
Wondering if anyone has experimented with using controllers (PS/xbox/other) to do anything other than gaming ?
Is there any movie in which the actor naturally aged and portrayed the younger and older version of character ? Not a prequel sequel thing. One movie.
Just wondering if someone was committed enough to make such a movie
Are the languages that can be fluently spoken only if you are descendent of a particular community/country ?
I find it amazing that if a child is brought up in a community/country different from the origin of the child, the child is still able to pick up and speak their language fluently. Our ability, as humans, to imitate and communicate is incredibly complex regardless of where we are from.
So my question is, is there a language that cannot be spoken like this? One which only people with a certain genetic advantage can speak fluently during upbringing.
Of course anyone can learn a language by putting effort into it. My question is only for one learnt during upbringing (native language).
(Not sure why my responses are downvoted. I'm a non-native English speaker. Sorry if I didn't communicate something properly. It's just a scientific curiosity.)
