Have to politely disagree with Mr Ager's analysis/conjecture. While I may concede that some abuse may have happened in Alex's childhood, there's no solid or even implied link to either parent being the abuser. Unfortunately, people hang for such circumstantial or presumed evidence. I'll generously grant Ager that there may have been sexual abuse on the part of the law (Deltoid, police) and if any case may be made regarding the parents' culpability, it possibly would be their turning a blind eye to the presumed sexual abuse (there's a legal term for this but it escapes me at the moment).

A Missouri judge has ruled that a longshot gubernatorial candidate with ties to the Ku Klux Klan can stay on the Republican ticket.

Missouri…once again, making it too easy for social media! It's like living in an Onion headline…without the satire.

Gov. Mike Kehoe, state Sen. Bill Eigel and others for the GOP nomination to replace Gov. Mike Parson, who is barred by term limits from seeking reelection. > > McClanahan’s lawyer, Dave Roland, said the ruling ensures that party leaders do not have “almost unlimited discretion to choose who’s going to be allowed on a primary ballot.” *** Everything I say is a lie… [email protected] ☆ [email protected] ☆ [email protected]

The Terrible Secret of Mulholland Drive
I'm not a big fan of YouTubers analyzing Lynch's works but I felt this one fills in the gaps in the film's popular dream-logic "explanation"…
Spoiler alert
like the film's continuance after the main character's death, which always stuck in my throat.
It's a little long, around an hour, but if you can overlook host Rosseter's terrible David Lynch impression, it's definitely well thought out.

Does anyone speak hairdresser?
No. Not even hairdressers speak hairdresserese. Like drummers, hairdressers/stylists/barbers will all appear as if all their attention is 100% on your description but they are thinking about something within their social circle (hence the real concern on their face). Like drummers, if there isn't some kind of natural affinity between you and who cuts your hair, you will never get what you're looking for.
That said, many clients haven't the proverbial "faintest idea" of what actually works for their face shape and stylists, if they're not suffering too strong of a hangover 🤣, do try to work within those confines.
You can only go in with your remarkably clear and detailed description —still open to interpretation as your hairstyle is not an airplane fuselage, with precise measurements and tolerances—in hand and still hope for the best. Apologies for the length of this reply.
DISCLAIMER: my ex-wife was and still is a fine hair stylist.
Authorities say a Michigan man whose 2-year-old daughter shot herself in the head with his revolver pleaded not guilty after becoming the first person charged under the state’s new law requiring safe storage of guns.

Post icon images: URL vs image
We see posts everyday, some (most) with a square-cropped image to the left. Some of these post images, let's call them "post icons", are there because on the "Create Post" form there is a text entry field explicitly pointing to the author's uploaded image. Otherwise, the post icon is an image from the link entered in the URL text entry field.
Are you with me so far? I hope so.
Now, sometimes the URL returns an image and sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't, a default Lemmy link icon appears.
Here's an example. The linked page has an image but it doesn't appear as a post icon.
- How can I get the URL to return an image I know is on the linked page. Not necessarily a specific image but any image from the link.
- Is there a way to use an author-chosen image when no linked image exists (or if I'd like a different image)? I've tried using both the URL and the Image fields but unfortunately the Image link takes preference.
I hope I've been clear. Please don't hesitate to ask questions. Thanks!
EDIT: added the post icon image.
GM suspends arrest powers for contracted private RenCen security force
General Motors has taken against the private security force following accusations first reported by the Free Press in Nov. 2023.
We've been following this since it first came to my attention in mid-November here and here.
> It's the latest action General Motors is taking against Renaissance Center Management Co., the private security force that was created by the company to patrol Detroit's iconic riverfront RenCen. GM contracts with G4S to provide the security services through the company, according to court records.
> Officers can no longer carry handcuffs, according to Kevin Kelly, a spokesperson for GM. The number of officers allowed to carry guns has also been reduced, although some still carry weapons for protection against dangers like active shooters, he said.
"Oh what a tangled web we weave…" > The private security force is majority-owned by G4S Secure Solutions, an international security company based in Florida, according to court documents filed in 2022. Allied Universal acquired G4S in April 2021. GM, G4S and RCMC have each been named in various lawsuits.
> Separate investigations by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and Michigan State Police are ongoing.
My take? I thought you'd never ask. GM should at bare minimum terminate immediately their contracts with Renaissance Center Management Co. G4S Secure Solutions Allied Universal whomever they need to and find another agency that acts less (allegedly) like the Hells Angels at Altamont.
