Gamma World 2e Retrospective, James Maliszewski
Nice read about the changes introduced in the first update to the Gamma World. If you're unfamiliar with this ttrpg and its setting, in his retrospective James links another article about the 1e.\ https://grognardia.blogspot.com/2023/04/retrospective-gamma-world-second-edition.html

Always fun to see such atmospheric content. Nice touch on wikipedia articles that go along with the photos.
Looking forward to the 2/2!
Nope. Anyone romanticizing space exploration should play Pioneer or Evochron Legacy. Space is vast and boring to travel.
There's so many films/series produced already. If nothing new ever came out, you'd still have enough to last more than a lifetime.
Dead Meat, Nick Clausen (2019)
To quote the book itself:\ "It seemed so ... solid. All the institutions, law enforcement and military. All the rules and systems that were in place. You’d think a modern society would be able to withstand challenges. But it all just crumbled when this thing got out of hand."
Just finished the series, what a ride! You've got nine books, each describing events that took place during one day. Really "Night of the Living Dead"esque. Action takes place at the beginning of the outbreak in Denmark. The setting makes it a quite different read from traditional US based apocalypse. There’s no widespread gun ownership in Europe, so you'll be following lots of close, in-your-face struggles, usually ending in bites.\ https://www.librarything.com/work/24097045

Don't worry about labels - stick with the hobby, it's good for ya.
I’ve been eyeballing some DAngelico models - ever since getting a korean Gretsch G5422T I love hollow/semi-hollow stuff.
Which Revstar did you get? I see the price range is all over the place.
Hold on, this will be long. When I started there were only premium tabs to buy, which were cool to group stuff and to lazily setup your buyouts - unofficial trading sites were scraping data from such tabs. My setup worked so I didn't bother with Currency tab when that came out. GGG kept adding mechanics with more trinkets for you to loot and more specialized tabs for you to get.
Before Quads were out, I was dumping stuff to those four basic tabs you get from the start, it kinda sucked to keep rotating their positions in the stash when one filled and it was annoying to sort stuff on inevitable clean up. Now I can practically live in that one Quad for the first few days of the league and since all stuff is in one tab, filtering out the items with keyword searches and sorting is not cumbersome.
It's fun to look back now on all the remove-only premium tabs that I picked for storing currency and to visually see rows of orbs that I ended up hoarding at the end of particular league.
Quad tab for dumping. Premium tabs for sorting trophies after that fills up, so you can name and group stuff. Not sure how point costs wise that looks though.
Mind you, I like inventory tetris and despite playing from 2013, I've never bought the specialized tabs. Hell, with all the auto-sorting stuff they implemented a while back you can sort of make your premiums act like those now.
The War Game, Peter Watkins (1966)
The only fictional documentary that won Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Despite being produced for BBC it was withdrawn from airing in 1965, after causing dismay with its depiction of violence and human suffering. Mind you, the film questions the survivability of a nuclear attack despite following the government guidance. The TV ban didn't forbid the cinematic distribution.
Triple-feature along with The Day After, Nicholas Meyer (1983) and Threads, Mick Jackson (1984).\ https://archive.org/details/TheWarGame_201405

What a beauty!
Still missing P90s guitar in my roster.
Thanks for the reply!
With your mention of 2001: A Space Odyssey, guess it will be fitting to watch this just before Solaris.
I always liked how Freespace have done this. Your wingman don't get to have unique names nor plot armor but you could give them commands and they felt really useful. They were not permanent companions and yet you cared about them and felt something when they went down.
Would be cool to get an implementation of that system. Imagine defending the vehicles graveyard in Garbage with a squad of loners assigned by Bes for you to command.
Amazing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. lore videos
Anomalous Dugout's channel has been on my radar for a few years now. Lots of in-depth, scrutinizing detail videos about various lore bits of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s universe.
I loved scouring forums and reading fan theories leading up to the initial game's launch and also after each new installment was released, this channel scratches that itch. It's a crime to see low view count of such content.

Peripeteia
Peripeteia is an upcoming first-and-third-person role-playing stealth game taking place in alt-history cyberpunk Poland. Inspired by immersive sims from Ion Storm and Looking Glass Studios, Peripeteia expands on the formula with new ideas and an original setting.
Huge levels with multiple viable paths to get to the objective, with different ways to approach the actual mission. As a mercenary you get to pick or juggle agendas of three different factions while completing your tasks. Resource based access to augmented cybernetics. Shares D.N.A. with Deus Ex, E.Y.E, Half-Life 2 Beta.
Highly recommend to check the available demos, especially "The Chasm" level as it is the most representative of the style of levels, that we're going to get with the full release.
Comes out this year.
Favorite FOSS games you come back to?
There’s so many I've played but I often come back to:
Infra Arcana, Battle of Wesnoth, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead (and it’s variants: Bright Nights, There Is Still Hope).
What's you preferred way of dealing with droid malfunction?
Ever since the gemstone shortage, I've been self-aware about the maintenance of my puppies. Currently thinking about one of the following options, nothing set in stone yet:
- refabrication
- reprogramming
- retiring
