‘World’s first off-road solar SUV’ just drove across Morocco powered only by the sun
  • If it went 621 miles, and 440 was on battery, that means it went 181 miles on solar. Even if that was 4 days, that's still 45 miles per day on solar. That is an amazing achievement. That's enough that most people probably would never need to charge except when taking long trips, and would not just be a gimmick at all.

  • I have a coworker who regularly wears an anti-static wrist strap that he attaches to grounding points on furniture. I'm not quite as staticy myself, so I usually just tap the screw on the light switches when I pass by during high static months. That's usually grounded.

  • Is it just me or does the Lemmy community actively ignoring the existence of kbin? I see a lot of posts explicitly mentioning Lemmy users but only posts from kbinners mention both platforms.
  • Well, coming from a new Lemmy user, I just mean the platform, not the software or instance. We're all federated anyway, right? Maybe I just don't understand the difference that kbin offers over other Lemmy instances. Is it more? Then again, I'm also not entirely clear on why I need both a Lemmy account and a mastodon account.

  • What happened here?...
  • Looks to me like you had a delamination. Then it just squirted unconnected plastic after that. Sure you got the temperature right? Nothing might have caused your line to feed incorrectly for a minute? Last time it happened to me it was because there was too much drag on the feed. It had fallen off the bearing onto a screw, which let it keep feeding, but with extra drag.

  • I've got a 15" (USB powered) portable display from Innoview. Might want to check out their offerings, see if there is one you like. My biggest problem is that the stand it comes with sits flush on the desk, which isn't high enough to match the laptop. Haven't good a good portable dock either. I have one with 100W PD (85W passes through), but it is single HDMI only.

  • thoughts on the little mermaid?
  • I was disappointed how many key lines were changed for no reason, including some that tied in with following lines. e.g. when Ursula suggests becoming human, the new one has "Is that possible?" Where original had "Can you do that?" And both are followed by "My dear, that's what I do. It's what I live for." The original line fits the response better, and there's no reason I can think of to change it, unlike some of the other changes (like in Kiss the Girl, which I understand).

I also think the change to the opening scene (and related follow-ups) to be more dark and violent were unnecessary. In the original, you could argue that there was a lot of misunderstanding, that they didn't realize what they were really doing, while in the new one they are straight to enemies and both sides are deliberately being evil. That changed a lot of the tone of the movie in a way I didn't like.

Similarly, in Ursula's lair, Ariel was grabbed by monsters in the new version, while it was captured merfolk in the original. Major change in tone, and I liked the original in that regard.

And I really didn't like how dark and hard to see everything was in the new version. Even the dark scenes like the ship and Ursula's lair were much easier to see in the original movie.
