Small example, one niche sub I loved was r/retroAR. It's where people share old AR15s or clones of old AR15s. They had pretty strict definition of what considered "retro", a fixed carry handle being a main part if it. In protest they are allowing non-carry handle posts and there was some wacky builds being posted.
I remembered a lot better in college and I absolutely could not find it. I'm convinced the blog isn't hosted anymore or something
got to start somewhere. Small projects will grow into bigger ones eventually.
I just realized those tools have probably been sitting in a pile in my garage for a year at this point. I really need to pass this professional exam I've been putting off so I can start focusing on stuff I actually want to do lol
I miss the days before search engine optimization.
Used to be able to find amazing stuff. Now, searches only get you the top paid for content.
I remember in high school I found this guy's blog that detailed how he built this amazing looking house off grid by himself (besides pouring the foundation). I dreamt of one day doing the same thing, following the plans he provided.
In college, years later, I met my fiance. Late night I shared this dream with her and she was encouraging. I went to try to find that blog, thinking I need to save that info for my future self. I couldn't find it. I searched for weeks trying to find it, but never did.
I know there are resources on building your own place, but I absolutely loved his design. It had high ceilings, wrap around porch. Used geothermal heating, solar panels.... Still makes me sad to think about.
Man, I bought a bunch of hand tools, including an old stanley planer, months ago with intent on getting into wood working and restoring old hand tools....
Still haven't gotten around to even cleaning out my garage to make space for a workbench.
Looks great. Can't wait til I get there too. I can only imagine how satisfying using a hand planer is.
