Multilingual folks: what are some odd idioms in your language(s)?
  • In Brazil we have "É de cair o cu da bunda" "Makes the butthole fall out of the ass", which indicates something impressive/unexplainable.

And "Que que tem o cu com as calças?" "What does the ass have to do with the pants?". Which asks for the relation of two completely different things. It is generally used as doubting there's a relationship at all.

  • tnh I think the spilled milk saying is more about things that you can't control / already happened.

and the Brazilian saying is more like "it's ok to let a little more milk get spilled", however I can't think of a nice way of saying that.

edit: thinking more about that, maybe the milk saying can be used for this, but not necessarily

  • Homeowner narrowly saves trees from removal scam
  • Y'all don't have a government option?

In Brazil we can send money to each other between bank accounts. There's even this new and fast system called "Pix", in which you can, in just some seconds, create a code of a payment request, show it as QRCode, scan it and pay it. It's pretty neat.

  • NO! TIMMY! NOT THE 45 DEGREE ANGLES!
  • When I was little, I got to know some of my mother's gay friends.

she just said smth like "they are a couple", and i got it. It's not difficult to teach the existence of gay couples. Unless you teach that couples are specifically man and woman.

  • Whitespace
  • tbh I always think about it as 'p' is a pointer to int

    therefore *p is an int

    therefore I should call it int *p;

however, of course, you should use what your team prefers. Having good yet inconsistent style is worst than mid consistent style.

  • Okay which one of you are lying
  • it may be

but the usability is about being common

if everyone (or almost everyone) used it, it would be useful

tho, I still like metric better because it matches our base

but if ppl around you use irish to mean *1.27, go for it
