Question to those not in the USA, and who have lived outside the USA.
  • @[email protected] in Europe gun ownership is largely illegal. You can get a permit but it need to be approved by the police and the gun you can buy is of limited firepower, like a pistol or something like that. You can also get hunting licenses and that is about it.

  • Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?
  • @[email protected] because of quality of construction. I have thinkpad a running Linux that are more than 10 years old and all this without vendor support. Being able to find parts even after so many years is also important.Do any of these Linux friendly vendors have similar quality and similar prices?
Whenever I think about getting one of those systems I really don’t know if the company is going to exist in the next few years.

  • Shoes that dont wear out and start falling apart after a year?
  • @[email protected] yeah, some models are really durable. I have now purchased several more air force, they come in all sort of styles and can be used both for work (in some cases) and leisure

  • Shoes that dont wear out and start falling apart after a year?
  • @[email protected] I got some Nike air force that I purchased almost 5 years ago and have used to go to work. They seem a little worn out but are still fairly ok.
I have also purchased several pairs of second hand running shoes, they are all fine and I use them to literally run hundreds of miles.
So far so good with shoes in my experience.

  • what counts as a distro
  • @[email protected] chromeos is a distro and android is also a distro

  • Question: Why are some instances defederating instances which don't sign the fedipact?
  • @[email protected] this can happen today, everyone is scraping fediverse. But as others said we are not that many anyway. Threads got 10 million users in 7 hours

  • Reddit Migration
  • @[email protected] there will be several waves as Reddit deteriorates by the lack of tools and moderation.

  • Reddit Migration
  • @[email protected] this is expected, that is why fediverse is discussing about moderation all the time.

  • Is this the beginning of the next tech bubble bursting?
  • @[email protected] the majority of layoffs were from big companies that wanted to fix their books, i don’t think google, or Microsoft are struggling

  • Went and invited people on 2 subreddits to kbin/lemmy/beehaw.. I got flamed BIG time..
  • @[email protected] people have got used to the manipulative toxic mainstream social media and their ads and algorithms, that when they join fediverse or Thread inverse, they rediscover that none of that crap is really necessary and they were imposed on us so long ago that they felt normal. But they are not

  • 📢Entire mod team on r/mildlyinteresting (and more subs) removed and locked out of their accounts after changing their rules upon community's request. (They're also switching subs BACK to SFW)
  • @[email protected] it’s ok, people will gradually move out as Reddit deteriorates. Eventually most interesting people will be elsewhere, the platform will still exist but it will be an empty shell.
The important thing is for threadiverse to take flight and acquire a sustainable size, the rest will happen in time.
