Linux hits 4% on the desktop 🐧 📈
  • I don't know but it might be inextricably linked to Googles content servers or reliant on services in such a way that it can't simply be stripped of the telemetry in the way VSCodium is for example.

  • Will GitLab or Codeberg eventually provide support for Starcoder, the open-source alternative to Microsoft Copilot?
  • I don't see any indication of AI integration on Codeberg, and in fact one of the features of the project is that it is lightweight and simple to set-up. Unsure if integrating potentially resource intensive or complex AI aligns with those properties.

  • LinkedIn vs. Library Cards

So my LinkedIn mobile app probably has an issue with my VPN so they want to see some papers please before I can use their app. Fine, it's your service and I need to use it to influence my peers. So anyway they want ID, I give them my current student ID which has a nice picture, a sticker with the present semester and year, matching name to account, a barcode UUID, and legit looking layout. That is rejected as invalid form of identification! I can't access my LinkedIn.

    Github vs. Email Aliases

Github dislikes email "aliases" so much that they will shadow ban your otherwise normal activities for months, and once flagged, support will request not only a "valid" email domain but also that you remove the "alias" email from the account completely.

    How Does BlueSky Work?
  • I'm not clear who the intended audience is here. A self-moderated micro-blogging platform is what most people needed all along, which is why the Fediverse exists. The real question remains how a corporate Fedi-protocol is going to interact with advertisers and marketers.
