Yeah, I’ve hit some of that. Placed some relatively “less used” keys there.
Yeah, that’d be me. Switched to a Moonlander first to manage an RSI, went cold turkey to Colemak too. As someone else said, I wouldn’t recommend switching layouts. I like it, but I don’t necessarily think it’s worth it.
I think the split + tenting definitely helps. Actually, scratch that: I know, because whenever I switch back to my Apple keyboards the ulnar deviation pain is obvious. But I think the fact that the switch slowed me down SIGNIFICANTLY helped, too.
I’m deep in the rabbit hole now, though, on a Corne, as I found besides ulnar deviation, right pinkie overload was the next cause of pain. And wrist rest use (turns out you’re not supposed to use those for typing, just for resting, but no one tells you until it’s too late).
So yeah, lots of factors, you have to honestly assess yours and address them. It’s not a straight line, you kind of have to try and see what works for you.
Yeah, I mean, don’t slam them, but they hold OK. Very convenient.
Corne-ish Zen with “magfrotto” tenting. Rests surprisingly comfortably and stable. Have had a few long sessions on the couch and a poang chair. Technically I could attach it magnetically to my pants as described here https://evantravers.com/articles/2023/04/06/magsafe-tenting-and-wearable-keyboards/ , but haven’t needed to.
Oh, no way I’m that skilled. It’s a “Corne-ish Zen”. Darryl from Lowprokb is the true magician here.
Own the Moonlander and my hands aren’t particularly small (men’s size L gloves), and still found the thumb cluster keys too far to be regularly useful. I’m not even sure it’s just about size, but the way your hand naturally moves/stretches (or doesn’t) possibly plays a part, too.
That said, I still love the thing because Oryx is SO good, it was my perfect intro to fully programmable KBs, and allowed me to experiment SO much that I was able to gradually/quickly optimize layouts until I settled (a couple of months without modifying layout), on what now feels like the perfect fit for my needs.
With that knowledge/experience I was now able to move on to a Corne-ish Zen, but I’m keeping the Moonlander as back up, and for experimenting.
